Other Worlds

You race over to the Paupu tree Riku's leaning against and hop up onto the curved stump.

"Finally showed up, did you find everything?" Riku asked.

"Not quite." You admit. "I couldn't find any mushrooms, and now it's too dark anyway."

You spend a brief moment wondering why the sun takes so long to set here. It's been setting for a couple hours now. Wierd. Kairi comes running up and sits next to you on the tree. You take pride in the fact that she's sitting on the other side of you rather than inbetween you and Riku. You all sit and admire the sunset for a few minutes.

"So, Kairi's home is out there somewhere, right?" You ask.

"Could be." Riku remarks. "We'll never know by staying here."

"But how far could a raft take us?"

"Who knows? If we have to, we'll think of something else."

"So, suppose you get to another world." Kairi asks. "Hehe, What would you do there?"

"Well, I haven't really thought about it." Riku pauses for a few seconds, thinking.

"It's just... I've always wondered why we're here on this island. If there are any other worlds out there, why did we end up on this one?" Why are we on this world? It's small, peaceful, beautiful, why not? Before you can vocalize your thoughts, Riku speaks up again.

"And suppose there are other worlds... Then ours is just a little piece of something much greater. So we could have just as easily ended up somewhere else, right?"

"I don't know." You comment, wondering when Riku got so deep.

"Exactly. That's why we need to go out there and find out. Just sitting here won't change a thing. It's the same old stuff. So let's go."

"You've been thinking a lot lately, haven't you?" Kairi asks.

"Thanks to you." Riku says. "If you hadn't come here, I probably would've never thought of any of this. Kairi, thanks."

"You're welcome."

You all sit there until the sun's a small curve over the ocean. Kairi is the first to leave. With you and Riku following soon after.

"Sora!" Riku calls out. "You wanted one, didn't you?"

He tosses a yellow star shaped fruit at you which you manage to catch. You recognize it immediately.

"A paopu fruit..."

"If two people share one, their destinies become intertwined. They'll remain a part of each other's lives no matter what. C'mon, I know you want to try it."

Your heart sinks. Is he just talking about Kairi? Or does he know about what happened with Selphie. No one saw you with her. But it would be like him if he did to hold it over you and joke about it. You decide to just play it cool.

"What are you talking--" You say before throwing it off the bridge into the ocean.

Riku laughs at you and runs off.
