Yes, and a crazy plan made in the dark.

You and Soo-yin make a break for the forest, spears and arrows whizzing behind you. The darkness is your friend however and despite a few close calls they all narrowly miss. Taking the lead you hear Soo-yin right behind you as you run through the underbrush. Branches and vines catch you and snag you but you just keep running. Staying low you take a blind meandering route into the jungle, you eventually come to a stop.

You listen...besides the regular jungle buzz...silence.

"I don't thing they're following." You say, breathing heavy.

"No. Too hard to find anyone in this at night." Soo-yin responds.

You could just barely see her in the meager moonlight that made it to the jungle floor. Now that you've stopped your mind is buzzing once more.

"Okay...listen...we'll wait for them to go to sleep..."

"Edward."

"...and we'll sneak in..."

"Edward. Slow down. We aren't doing this tonight."

You collapse down onto your butt, your face in your hands. "We've got too...we have too..."

"I'm worried as well." She admits, a rare admission for her. "But they know about us now. They will be ready for us next time. Especially tonight. They could hurt our women if we act too boldly." She sits beside you. "Perhaps in a few nights, when they've let their guard down."

"They might not have a few nights Soo-yin." You steady your breath as you think. "I'm not sure we do either." You take the water filter bottle and take a sip, then offer it to her. She takes a drink as well. As you sit and think inspiration strikes.

"The idol." You state. "We'll go for the idol."

Your friend sits quietly as she waits for you to finish your thought.

You continue, thinking as you talk. "Isabella said they believe only a god can touch it. If I come back with the idol..."

"Then they believe you are a god." Soo-yin finishes the statement. "I'm not sure about that Edward."

"We have no time Soo-yin. The mountain is no more than a day away for us. We can be back for the evening after next." You say, making your case. "And if we don't find it...then we go to plan B." You weren't really sure what plan B would be, but it probably wouldn't be pretty.

Soo-yin is quiet a long time before saying. "Very well."

You find her hand and squeeze it. "I'm glad you're with me Soo-yin. I'm glad you're here."

"Yeah." She presses back. "Me too."

The two of you get up and begin moving slowly toward where you knew the mountain to be. You wanted to put more distance between you and the village before taking a rest. Your only thoughts were with Natali.
