No roommate yet, but you're not exactly alone

You open the door into a small foyer. A furnished living room opens on one side, while a small dining room opens on the other. A set of stairs leads upwards in front of you, and a hallway extend further into the cottage. You glance quickly around, and are about to head upstairs when you hear a thump on the floor above your head. You're about to call out, but then close your mouth, deciding to explore in silence.

Leaving your case at the foot of the stairs you slip your shoes off and carefully and silently walk up the stairs. Halfway up you hear a a murmur that might be voices. You stop an listen, but can't quite identify the sound. At the top of the stairs there is a small landing with three doors. One is standing open, revealing a bathroom, the other two are closed, at either end of the landing. You listen carefully but hear nothing further.

You look at the two closed doors, deciding what to do.
