Chapter 25 by Kougyoku Kougyoku

How does your meeting with Wayne go?

Tense, then surprising.

You hold back the urge to sigh, roll your eyes, or let your shoulders slump. You've obviously had enough of Wayne for the last two days, and your body nearly betrays you telling it. Bianca manages to pick up on the subtle changes that you broadcast to any who watch as she remains outside Wayne's office, trying to lead you away.

"Hey Wayne!" Bianca exclaims. "No time for chat now, I'm taking our new Whittman around the plant. As you know that's a tight schedule!" You are pleased that Bianca was able to pick up on your subtle clue that you didn't want to talk to Wayne. "Nonsense." Wayne says. "Besides, anyone gives John trouble 'cause I called 'ya in, y'all tell 'em to call me." Damn. Looks like you aren't getting away that easy.

You step into Wayne's office. It's the nicest office in the building, complete with mahogany desk and corner windows. Awards and plaques decorate the walls, and sitting at his desk is a PC on his left, ledger on his right.

"John, let me get right to the point." Wayne begins. "Did ya tell MY daughter she didn't have a place with you or the Whittmen?" Wayne slams his hands on the desk and stands up. He leans over the desk aggressively, wearing a scowl on his face. The man obviously means business.

You feel your chest tighten in anxiety. A tense moment passes, and you swallow, hard. "WELL?!" Wayne demands. You take a quick breather and meet Wayne's gaze, standing toe to toe with him. "Yes. I did. She said I'd be nothing without her. I told her that any woman who's trying to manipulate her man or for personal gain have no place with me or in the Whittmen."

Wayne relaxes his stature and stands up straight. He begins with a smirk, coming around the desk before his face turns to a huge smile. He slaps his big, meaty hand on your right shoulder. "I couldn't be prouder of you son. I set up the whole thing. Think of it as a test, and you passed with flying colors." Wayne's statement left your jaw dropped. You thought for sure you'd have to give up Bianca, your great job, and the Whittmen life.

Wayne walks back around the left hand side of the desk and opens a cabinet. He pours himself a glass of scotch, "Would'ja like some scotch?" Wayne asks. After all that, a drink sure sounds good.

Drink?
