Dragon On The Border...

"We bid you welcome to Our court, Ghazgul Magnum Uruhk Throckley, and your party mates, tell Us what it is you wish from Us and We shall grant you a quest worthy of that boon." King Roger I said.

"Heh!" Ghazgul barked a short laugh. "What wez be wantin' from Yer Majesty could be gotz from jus' 'bout any quest, it'z all jus' a matter uv SCALE. We'z been talkin' tá folks, an' we knowz dat yer treazury haz a bit uv a problem wif all da ventures it be supporting, on account uv da Boyz and Ghurlz wot don gon' a bit nutz-o in yer kingdom. Well, we'z here ta put dat bit ta rights fer Ya! We'z n't wantin' gold, and certainly don' need yer 'special touch', I'z got stuff just as powerful az yerz in dat part. We'z askin fer somat else, wez wantin' titles, vassals, an' LAND." Ghazgul began.

King Roger I blanched, this was even WORSE! If the Adventurers started asking for lands and titles it could compromise the whole peerage system which helped shield his perfidious thefts from view...!

"Now, wez know dat yer kingdom iz pretty well cutz up as it iz, but fing iz, wez arn't talkin' dá gud farmlandz an' pasturez an' all dat, nor da vassals wot youz already gotz! We're gonna be takin' da moorland, an' dá fens, an dá rocky bitz wot no-one else likez, an' den we fillz dem wif Orks, an' ogrez, an' trolz, an' gobboz like me herald 'ere! We 'unhumanz' iz dá best at survivin' where you lot can't, and We'z gonna make sure da taxes getz paid on time! Now I'z not a beleaver in startin' small, so you work out a big quest dat'll put us onta a gud, start! Iz promiz youz, we can handle jus' bout anyfing, so don't be'z shy bout giving us summat ded'ARD!" Ghazgul boasted.

:God's bellow! Is it my birthday, the winter solstice? I haven't had this kind of luck since that first damned adventurer showed up!: The king thought as he broke into a genuine smile for the first time in months. :This fool will provide me with legitimate reasons to have monsters in the kingdom and I can blame their depredations on lapses in HIS vigilance!: The king crowed inwardly.

"If you wish to start large, Ghazgul Magnum Uruhk Throckley Esquire, WE have a worthy enough Challenge for you! Along Our northern border lies the Wild-Rim forest. WE have had word that a dragon is raising an army there to invade. Reports of its composition are inconsistent, but a significant percentage say orcs and goblins are part of it. Take your band and travel North, slay the Dragon and disperse the army. That accomplished WE shall declare the whole of the Glorming Fens to be yours in which to settle the 'unhumans' you rescue from the Dragon's clutches!" The King declared.

"Haha! Itz as good as done yer majesty!" Ghazgul barked, and without another word turned and left...
