Tentacles!

“H...hello?” Mary Lou quavered, shining the light towards the crater. “Is anyone there....”

She heard a rumbling sound, following by a muted scrape. Something hissed, sand she took a step back, and white steam rise out of the crater....

And then she was lifted into the air, and a swarm of tentacle shot out . Then were made of some metal, segmented, with inched on the end. Fast as she could blink they wrapped around her arms and legs. She screamed, struggling, as they lifted her up. Her flashlight went flying, the glass shattering as it hit the ground. She waved in the air, legs flashing, hair flying, and then, with a final cry was pulled in, down into the crater, her last sight that of a brilliant light shooting out to strike her in the face.....

The light disappeared, and for a moment all was still. Then, the air around the crater began to shimmer. Light bended in, as the cloaking device reactivated. A moment later all traces of the crater were gone, the mutilated corpses of the cows vanished. To an onlooker, the scene would like an ordinary, empty field of grass.
