The space is divided into 3 regions.

The Old Worlds, the New Worlds, and the Uncharted Region.

The Old Words were the first ones that had the technology to travel in space, and they grew strong fast. This region is the most explored, however there are still secrets that it holds.

The New Worlds were explored later, when the technology allowed it. This region is much less explored, and most areas in this region are rarely visited by spaceships.

The Uncharted Region has yet to be explored. The few people who dare to go there seeking rich planets, rarely come back.

Inside each region there are sectors. Sectors usually are recognized by the rest of the galaxy when they have enough political power, so they can be considered the political powers of the Galaxy.
