Chapter 2 by Anonegg Anonegg

...which student would you like to see first?"

Wen Li (Female) - Aspiring applicant

Tao Ling waved for the others to follow, and made his way over to the southern half of the compound. This was the main entrance to the Tao Ling Temple; a tall stone staircase that led down to a dirt road, which inevitably led into the nearby village. Tao began to descend the stairs, with Sarah and Greg following behind. Down below, in a circular clearing next to the road, they could see a Chinese woman in her twenties sitting on a bench.

"The list mentions that she's a new student?" Sarah asked.

"In a manner of speaking." Tao Ling replied. "Wen Li was the female black belt of a rival dojo, the Habishi Dojo. She has faced my students on three separate occasions, and each time she has been defeated. Her dojo has dismissed her. She is now requesting permission to join us."

"Why do you want her?" Greg asked. " I mean, if she's been losing and all, surely she isn't worth taking on?"

"She is skilled. I would be blind not to see that. Perhaps, if she embraces the focus of Naked Kung Fu, she could be even better. It would be foolish of me not to even try."

They finally reached the bottom of the stairs. Greg and Sarah began to set up as the naked master approached the girl. Wen Li was an attractive young woman with dark hair and beautiful brown eyes. She wore a black sports bra and a pair of black yoga pants, with silver running shoes on her feet. Her eyes widened, and her cheeks reddened, as she saw Tao Ling.

The following is translated from the original mandarin:

"It - I - ah - I am honoured - it is an honour -" Wen Li struggled.

"Please, there is no need for formalities." Tao Ling said with a smile. "Welcome to the temple."

Wen Li pressed her hands to her sides and gave a respectful bow. When she realised how closely this brought her to Tao Ling's private parts, however, she quickly jumped backwards and, if possible, began to blush even worse. By now Greg and Sarah were recording.

"I can see that you're uncomfortable." Tao Ling said. "So why don't we do something you're accustomed to; please show me your form."

After taking a deep breath, Wen Li stepped away from the master to give herself space. After a few more breaths her eyes took on a focused, determined quality. Then she began to move. To the uninitiated, it would appear to be a strange sort of dance punctuated by random kicks and punches, but Tao watched her closely as she flowed from Forward Stance to Twist Stance, glided through Horse and Cat stances, before finishing in Crane stance with an energetic flourish.

"Impressive." he said once she was finished.

"What was that?" Sarah asked.

"The basic stances of Shao Lin Kung Fu." Tao Ling replied in English. "It's a demonstration of her ability to transition between the forms. As I said to you earlier, Wen Li is skilled."

Tao Ling turned back to Wen Li, and in mandarin said to her "I want you to do that again, but this time without clothes."

For a few moments there was only silence. Somewhere in the distance a car engine revved; in the undergrowth a cricket chirped.

"Ah, master, that sounded like you said-"

"I did."

"I... I wasn't expecting..."

"Expecting Naked Kung Fu to involve being naked?" Tao Ling asked, though not unkindly. "You know our philosophy."

Her eyes darted over to the camera. "What about them?"

Tao Ling shrugged. "What about them?"

"Are the other students normally filmed... getting naked?"

"Not normally, no. This will be the first time."

"Then it's hardly fair." she said, crossing her arms.

Tao Ling shrugged. "There are many paths throughout this world, child. Is it fair that somewhere in the village below, a woman gets to experience the joy of motherhood when you do not? Or is it fair that you are here, testing yourself to your limits and preparing to make a name for yourself, while that same mother must live in obscurity? There is no fair in life, only different paths. If you refuse to take this path because it is harder, more difficult than those who have come before you, you do not gain from this; you merely cut yourself off from a route in life."

What does Wen Li decide?
