Chapter 3 by 24ward 24ward

What does Megan say or do?

Go back outside

Megan Feeley dismissed what her landlady said. 'That old cow hates me because she's old, and fat, and black,' the young redhead told herself. 'It's sad how jealous she is of me.' But Megan decided this place would do just fine, even if the decor left something to be desired. 'I think I'm going to like it here,' she told herself with a smile.

Megan wanted nothing more than have a relaxing hot shower but first she wanted to retrieve her luggage from her car. She retraced her steps downstairs, outside and down the street, but when she arrived where she had parked, her car was gone. She stood there for a moment, hands on hips and brow furrowed, trying to make sense of it. Where did her car go?

"Sumptin da mattah, white girl?" she heard a man's voice call out to her. Megan looked over at a nearby house in an advanced state of disrepair. She could barely make out some figures on the shadowy front porch, though she could see from the flecks of light and wafts of smoke that they were smoking something.

"Yes, my car was parked here with all of my belongings in it!" Megan complained in the clear diction of a teacher, gesturing with both hands at the unremarkable asphalt. "Did you see what happened to it?"

"We gonna tell you once you come over here, beautiful," came another voice, a low and drawling baritone. Megan took a step forward but stopped when she heard them laughing, a low rumble of what sounded like maybe half a dozen men. A third voice joined in, quieter but harder than the first two, "Yeah, git yo skinny ass up here, whitey."

Does Megan approach the men?
