Adelle
Adelle was a hard girl to read -- while generally reserved, proper, and "tightly strung," once in a blue moon she would interject a conversation with some little bit of venom or dark humor that would take my whole group of friends aback. I suppose what it came down to was that she was very aware not only of the fact that she acted "prim and proper," but was also aware of the fact that everybody perceived her to be a very proper person. The occasionally conversational jab or burn was her way of showing those who were paying attention that there was a lot more to her than studying and shyness. Though people would play off what she said in these cases, it was rare that people would try to shock or confront Adelle directly -- the image of her as a poor, shy, defenseless girl was too burned in to their minds, I guess.
Adelle always came off as being very tightly wound, but I always wondered what would happen if she spun loose, even if just for a night. I remember ...
