Chapter 3
by Nemo of Utopia
Who was your paramour, and why would it be called an "affair"?
It's An 'Affair' More In The Sense Of A "Caper" Or "Incident" Than Because He's Married Or Something...
And as for the other part, well, you were sent to kill this dragon...
The blazing summer sun had done nothing to warm you as you ascended the slopes of Mount Hyrule on the northern border. Supposedly there was a young white dragon lairing in an old Dwarven Delve high up in the mountains, who had enslaved hundreds of orphaned children and street urchins from all across the Queensland last winter and put them to work re-opening passages and putting the old 'Dark-Plant' gardens back into production. What he had done to the were-rat goblins that had taken over the delve when the dwarves abandoned it as played out no one seemed to be able to figure out, but the snatching of parentless children was well documented.
With you were a **** of 6 other up-and-coming mercenary Heroes and Heroines, Esmeralda of the Gilded Bough, an elven sorceress; Sir Marcus Montoya, a human paladin of the Order of the Phoenix; Grille Fizzilboom, a gnomish Alchemist; Madonna Rosie DeMario, a trap mistress of some repute; Sister Kelly Martina, a human cleric of Saint Iomidae; and Jeffry Kevorkian, the group's chronicler and bard, a half elf that took after his human father's side. You of course were the group's tracker and trail blazer, though how you were supposed to 'track' something which FLIES everywhere you didn't know, but fortunately the route up the mountain to the old delve remained well marked and easy to follow. You were well past the tree line and into the snow cap before you came upon the first sign that something was amiss, which was to say the avalanche.
"Does anyone hear tha-" was all you got out before everyone saw it, a cloud of white thundering down the mountain towards you, and you ran for the shelter of a rocky overhang you had passed some four or five minutes of careful climbing earlier. Laden down by his armor Sir Marcus didn't make it, and his body was never recovered.
That was the FIRST mishap of the assent, but not the last. half an hour later part of the ramp you were climbing gave way, and only a sudden lunge by you and Sister Kelly kept Grille from plunging to his ****, after that you had Madonna take point, probing for traps, till you came to the gates of Karaz-A-Valdon, and there your encountered the Witch Rachel Cortland and her Moss-Black Guards.
What transpired between you and the Moss-Black Guard?

D&D Dynastic Delving
Welcome to the world of Eva.
You are an adventurer, with longstanding obligations to the Adventurer's Guild of the Queensland of Lore. You are being asked to enter the Labyrinth of Ambuscade, a deadly dungeon from which few return, but those who do come back rich beyond the dreams of kings. Your family has been given exclusive rights to this treasure trove, but it is perilous beyond reckoning, so exploiting it will be the work of generations. Sire or bear children during the downtime segments between 'adventures' to continue the story when your current character dies and invest the gold and gems you bring back in expanding your family's castle built atop the entrance to the Labyrinth to give those children training which gives them the best chances to succeed where 'you' failed. You start out by picking a character from the top list to begin the game as, each time your character 'dies': or at least doesn't come back for about 20 years, there ARE conditions in the story where the current heir can run into and rescue their distant/not-so-distant ancestor(s): their son or daughter starts a new delve into the Labyrinth of Ambuscade, perhaps ending up dead as well or perhaps at last reaching the fabled Glade of the Gloaming where grows the Tree of Immortality whose magical fruit grants eternal life to those who eat it. Not all characters are created equal, in some respects: Female characters, due to the difficulty and risks of having children in those cases and the shier deadliness of the dungeon, start with three daughters to carry on after them, males by contrast do not start with any heirs, they have to create them the old fashioned way. (Inspired by other stories on this site, the Pathfinder Role Playing Game System and the video-game Rogue Legacy.)
