You were a young magically gifted individual. Once upon a time making a living on the street with barely harnessed powers. You could light a fire, or scare off some bullies with a little smoke and sparks, but even that would leave you drained and weak for a day at the least. It was when the court's mages took an interest in you did your life really change.

One of the apostles... or rather a servants to the mages council saw you practicing in the old ruins while gathering herbs. Long story short you found yourself apprenticing to one of the Royal magisters... apparently you had some serious raw talent. Turns out not many mages could cultivate mana without an amplifier of some sort, and you could without one and even as young as five.

Problem was you didn't exactly have the best grip on your abilities. So while being a special case you also needed a powerful chaperone... which also turned out to be one of the more eccentric of tutors.
