Chapter 4 by GateKeeper_A GateKeeper_A

Up the ladder? Or stay down below?

Up the ladder

Grimacing at the thought of a fair fight, even one that is stacked in her side's favor, she ascends the ladder.

By the time she reaches the top, the area around her was empty of anyone living. Several dead lay on the deck around her, but the fighting had already moved towards the fore and the aft of the ship.

Slipping the dagger from its scabbard, Sparrow reverses her grip and starts to move towards the aft of the ship, doing her best to stay low on the wet deck and remain out of sight as best she can.

About half way aft, she hears a groan from nearby. Turning slightly to look, she sees a man, bleeding as he lays on the deck. He reaches for her, but Sparrow shies away. Only pausing for a second, she moves closer again, this time to thrust her dagger into his chest. The man falls still, his eyes taking on a blank, glassy stare.

Returning her attention aft, she sees Captain Glaroon, still standing at the helm, his hard, hate filled stare locked on the dark figure advancing towards him.

Shanna, her shirt torn open to reveal her bare chest, her breasts the color of coal, stalks towards the captain. Sparrow, to her credit, keeps moving towards the scene, even as she watches it unfold.

Captain Glaroon releases the wheel, which begins to spin rapidly. In the same motion, he draws his own cutlass and steps towards Shanna.

A split second after releasing the wheel, the ship jerks hard to port, the rigging overhead groaning loudly in protest at the sudden violent course change. All around her, Sparrow hears cries of alarm and the sounds of people being thrown to the deck as it shifts suddenly beneath their feet.

Sparrow manages to keep her feet beneath her, but only because she was already crouched low.

Shanna's cutlass comes up at the last possible second, barely deflecting Captain Glaroon's first cut, then she counters with a jab that is easily parried in turn. Steel on steel, the two fight, the deck listing beneath their feet. Within seconds, its clear that the Captain is the superior swordsman., Shanna parrying his attacks with increasing difficulty.

Sparrow glances between the ship's wheel and the fight between Captain Glaroon and Shanna, trying to decide if she should try to gain control of the ship, or help the the prisoner's de facto leader.
