You leave Lenny behind with him yelling his protests and head in the direction of the swamp. It actually only takes about an hour before the ground slopes and starts to soften.

Soon the smell of fetid water and methane become noticeable. It appears it is not just a swamp but a peaty bog. A swamp pooled on top of an oil deposit of some kind. Momentarily you wonder if you will run into some undead dinosaur risen from the oil and then you stop in your tracks. That wouldn't be the most crazy thing you have seen you think to yourself.

The trees start to thin out and swamp grass becomes the predominate vegetation with occasional tall trees with spreading branches taking up the rest of the landscape.

Then you find the water, thick, sludgy water. It looks most unpleasant. You start to pick your paths more carefully, walking between the grasses where you think there is soil. You put your foot in the wrong place several times and end up knee deep in the sludge and after about half an hour of this you decide it is better to just suck it up and wade.

You step into the water, cold and thick, and start to push your way though. It is hard work and with the heat and humidity you find yourself sweating quickly. Only half an hour in and you feel tired. You look up and realise it is going to be getting dark soon under the canopy of these large trees and start looking for a piece of dry land to make camp for the night.

You start to wonder if Lenny was right, if this was a bad decision. Without shelter or a fire it will be a cold and uncomfortable night.

You see a short distance away a large tree with some soil built up around it and think to yourself that it is about as good as you are likely to get but before you start to move you see something else moving under the water to your left. Something large.

You hesitate only momentarily before making your choice.
