Chapter 14 by elmerstories elmerstories

Does she have an existing lover?

She doesn't say.

"I think it's better if I don't tell you," she smirks.

You furrow your eyebrows, a little upset especially knowing that she is playing around. You decide to not to press further and continue putting your pants on as you originally planned, but then her tone lowers and grows more serious.

"If you haven't already guessed, I'm trying to prove a point here, human. You keep worrying about your own wife despite the fact that there isn't anything you can do now. If I worried constantly about the condition of my sister, then I would not have survived. I believe when the time comes, you'll know when you find your real wife. Until then, this awful mountain and air will continue to play on your own emotions. Focus on what is real. I am real and I can't continue this alone," she emphasizes.

You sigh, knowing her words to be true. It is surprising how she seems well versed in Madness despite in it for five days. Would it be six actually? There is no way for you to tell how long you slept or the time of day outside. Maybe it is better not to think about it.

"Alright," you reply and continue putting back on your clothes. Nathraena surrounds herself with your winter cloak to at least keep as much as she can while walking barefoot on the ground. You figure the first priority is finding some dead adventurer to find some clothes. You aren't sure of the frequency of visits that Madness receives, but there should be some fair share of the dead around.

With Nathraena glowing beside you, even with the cloak covering her, you are given a living, walking light to see around you.

"Normally, I would prefer to travel in the dark, but since you're human, we'll just have to make due. After the trolls, all the rest of the monsters that reside in this mountain are able to see in the dark, so trying to hide is useless. The best you can do is limit your presence which I'm glad you are well-versed in," she warns.

Your eyes narrow and you curl your lips, readying yourself for the long struggle to come. The drow has basically given you what you needed to know about the mountain and its threats. You can only wish that nothing comes your way given that the drow has already crossed these grounds and rocky walls.

What comes next for you and the drow?
