Chapter 12

What happens when she goes outside?

Media Circus!

You trot downstairs, eschewing the elevator, and enter the lobby. Everything seems normal, the same desk clerk on duty as every Wednesday, same big red carpet over the white tiles, same potted plants, same bank of elevators... Until you get outside.

Then, from every direction except behind you reporters of every stripe and description swoop in and put microphones in your face demanding a statement: "Have you Registered?!", "Are you going to go into police work?!", "Do you have an agent?!", "How did you get your powers?!", "Did you go looking for crime to stop yesterday?!", "Do you have to eat cat food?!", "Are you in a relationship?!", "Can you tell us what you watch on TV?!", "Did you read comic books as a child?!", "What did Iron Man say to you yesterday?!", "If you look like a Panther why did you wear Leopard Print?!", "Are you an Animal Rights Activist?!": and on and on and on! You try to retreat back inside but they have blocked the doors with people snapping pictures and taking video, the flashes of all the photographs blinding!

You slowly make your way through the crowd, pushing people and shoving to get free of the mob, and as soon as you are out from under the awning you leap onto a fire escape across the street and thence on to the next roof, then take off running over the tops of the dozens upon dozens of identical apartment buildings that make up this area of town, what for you are little hops carrying you easily over the ten foot gaps between each roof.

About fifteen minutes later you come to rest at the corner of Washington and 22nd looking down onto the street bellow, with the morning rush hour starting and the streets clogged with cars, when there is a familiar whine of small jet engines and you look up to see Iron Man hovering about 20 feet away, and looking at you.

What does he want?
