Chapter 8
Which will it be: Hero, or Private Citizen?
"...And Some Have Greatness Thrust Upon Them!"
You only need to consider for a split second, you have trusted to fate thus far, and it has not stared you wrong yet: you will become 'Omaha' fully, a Hero working for the cause of Light and Law, and never look back! (Besides which, the government would figure out who you are soon enough anyway.)
"I am going to register." You declare and though the metal suit he wears is incapable of smiling, you can tell Iron Man is pleased.
"Very well then, if you will come down and ride in one of the police cars, we will take you to the offices at once." He says, following you as you head down to street level and move along to sit in the FRONT seat of one of the patrol cars, at his insistence... Seems he has some pull with the police, not surprising since allegedly he's a Lieutenant on the ****.
You arrive at the Federal Building down town, it's a huge sky scraper, taller than the empire state building, but at least outwardly built in the same general style, though with that certain Alien flare that is so common among the buildings of this city. It houses the local offices for the FBI, National Guard, CIA, Secret Service, NSA, District Court of Appeals, DHS, and a dozen other federal alphabet soup agencies which most people hardly ever interact with, including the 'Meta-Human Mobilization Department'.
The Squad car enters the underground parking structure that lies beneath the building, and you part in a 'Government Reserved: 15 Minute' space right next to one of the four main express elevators, and the officer hands you a 'visitor' key card, saying: "Swipe that in the elevator to unlock the controls. Twenty Fifth floor, switch to the 'local' elevator opposite, down two floors, and head right, you can hardly miss it." Then you get out and thank her for the ride, to which she merely nods and after you close the door leaves.
You follow her directions and shortly are at the offices you have dreaded entering ever since your transformation, but steeling your courage you push the doors open and walk inside.
The office is adorned in the style of government buildings everywhere, linoleum, cheap particleboard partition with 'windows' to speak to the first of many layers of bureaucrats you will deal with, and those uncomfortable plastic chairs to sit in that belong in a grade school somewhere.
You walk up and ring the bell for assistance at which point a tubby middle aged female office worker in an ill fitting suit comes up and looks you over appraisingly.
"So, new 'super' come in to register, eh?" She asks without preamble.
"Um, Yes." You respond. Looking over her bored and disdainful expression with concern.
"Follow me." She responds and the two of you head back through a labyrinthine maze of cubicles and office space to another elevator by which you head a long way up through the building.
You try to talk to her while you ride the elevator but she doesn't respond, and you give up after a minute or two. When the elevator reaches it's destination, you follow her out into a series of corridors which are all painted and upholstered in a featureless neutral gray, the only marks of your passing through being the LED light panels moving by above your heads. Eventually you come to another blank patch of wall, and she swipes a pass-card against it, at which point the wall pulls back and moves aside and you are confronted with a high tech room of some kind with numerous machines that you cannot identify the purpose of. She waives you in and you go, then comes in behind you and the wall closes, seamlessly.
"First, just state your real name." Your guide says...
What IS your real name?

Life In Millennium City
You are a super hero in the new city of 'Millennium'...
At the beginning of the second Millennium A.D. magic returned to the world, but it was not the old magic of Merlin, Circe, Solomon, and Abe no Seimei: it was a new magic, a young magic, wild and untamed: and as it always does when it returns to the world after an absence it took the form of MODERN mythology and folklore: in the case of most of the world being that of the silver screen and the nascent internet. For MUCH of the world, but especially the U.S.A., this meant those gifted with supernatural powers became 'Supers', the heroes and villains of the four color comics brought somewhat inexactly to life! If you like the story please feel free to add to it, as long as it obeys the writing guidelines and I can make sense of it It will probably be approved!
