How does Alex test if the letter was telling the truth?
Make Alli Spill The Beans About Her Birthday
"It's uh…” Alex gulped, trying to swallow a knot, but his throat was suddenly dry. “It's a letter my dad wrote me just before the accident. I've been putting off reading it till now. It's just him telling me to take care of myself and be a good man and all that. You know how he was." Alex told her with a sad smile.
Alli walked over to him, wrapping her arm around his and leaned her head on his shoulder. "He already knew you were a good man, he just wanted to make sure you knew it."
Alex wasn't so sure considering all the things he was thinking of doing with this new power. He decided he'd test it with something light. "Hey, so what did you guys actually do for your birthday?"
"What do you mean 'actually'? We told you what you missed," Alli said, still teasing him.
Okay, Alex thought, so it's not just about a command. In the letter Dad was talking about willpower, so maybe I have to actually make it happen... with my mind... Jesus Christ I can't believe I'm actually trying this. Alex began to concentrate on Alli and the birthday.
Suddenly, "Okay, so maybe it was just the three of us, and maybe all we did was have cake and some wine while we watched scary movies." Alli looked up at him with a smirk across her face.
"Not quite as sexy," Alex teased. "But it sounds really nice, I'm sorry I wasn't there Red." Alex grabbed her hand and massaged it.
"Well, at least you're gonna be here for Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas, right?"
"Right." Alex was happy that went well, but he still wasn't sure the power was real. She easily could have just decided to tell him. It did confirm what he saw in the bathroom, but that still could have easily just been some strange hallucination. He would need something less easily explainable, and something other people could confirm. As they walked through the parking lot to the car, a thought struck him. Suddenly the air erupted with horns and whistles as every single car alarm went off. Then, he focused again, and they all suddenly stopped. Alex looked over at his family who were still covering their ears, looking around wondering what the hell just happened. He focused again and suddenly all the cars in a row began to honk to the tune of “The Nutcracker”. Yeah, this power is definitely real.
He looked at the cars with a giant smile on his face while the girls stood in awe. After a minute the cars suddenly stopped. He looked at them and said simply "Must be a flash mob or something." The girls began to laugh as they started towards the car again.
As they loaded Sandy's SUV Alex gave it a once over, thinking. It wasn't much to look at but it got them around. It was old and worn, and who knew how safe it was anymore. Alex felt his aunt deserved something better and decided to give it to her. He focused on the car and tried to will it into something newer with an extra couple zeros on the price tag. Before he could even change a spark plug though, he got dizzy again and only just managed to catch himself on the trunk.
"Whoa, you okay there sweetheart?" Sandy put a hand on his shoulder, bracing him.
"Yeah, just, low blood sugar I guess, I didn't eat on the train or anything. It alright if we grab some fast food on the way home?"
"Yeah, of course, whatever you want dear."
So he had power as evident by the bathroom, and car show, but probably only so much. That or maybe he was just new at this and would have to work his way up to converting something as complex as a car. Only time would tell.
Does he try anything on the way home or rest?
