You notice her left hand has a ring tan line but no ring.

You: “Were you married?”

Her face gets sad: “Nope, but I was engaged, the wedding was planned, and the date was set for in two months, but I caught him cheating last week.”

You can visibly see that you hit a sore subject, and she is trying to fight back the tears.

You: “Oh, I’m sorry.”

Her: “It’s not your fault,” Wiping back the tears that were forming “At least he did not wait until after the wedding” She attempted to laugh but failed.

You: “he should have never even considered cheating. Not to pry, but how long did you know him.”

Her: “For five years. I Never thought he would do this to me.” That was it, she could no longer hold back the tears anymore. “ Look at me. Here I am crying in front of a student.”

You lean in and place your hand on top of hers: “It’s ok you just went through a rough part of your life. Anyone would cry if they were in your shoes. “

Her: “You know you act really old.”

You: “I don’t think that came out as you meant it, but thanks.”

Her: “Oh, sorry. Yea, I meant mature. Look at me. I’m so upset that I am jumbling my words.

You:” How about this. You take this time to sort yourself out, and we will meet up later. Let say at the dinner or something, to study. “

Her: “ok,” she wipes her face. “ I should be better at around 6.”

You leave her office at that. You show up at the dinner at 5:45 to make sure she is not waiting for you. She finally arrives at 6:15. She is wearing the same clothes as she was earlier. Overall she looks like she is about ready to step out in front of a class. However, on closer examination, you see run marks in her makeup, and her eyes look as though they just got done crying.
