Chapter 1 Poker debt

It was finally Friday. Kevin and Jana were looking forward to the weekend. They both already have plans for the weekend. Kevin meets his friends once a month to play cards and Jana meets her friends for a girls' evening. With Kevin you never know how long it will take. But he's usually back home on Saturday evening. Kevin said goodbye to Jana early in the evening. He hasn't had much luck playing cards, but so far he's always come out at plus or minus zero. They met at a friend's house. In total there were four men who met to play cards. The evening started as usual. One brought beer, another some food and this time it was Kevin's turn with chips and snacks.

Today they wanted to play poker. They also always played for some money. Not much, but sometimes there was a pot of one thousand euros. The game went well for Kevin this time. He made quite a profit. A little later in the evening the doorbell rang. Tim, who owned the apartment, opened the door. A little later an older man, Tim's father, stood in the doorway. He asked, “Can I still join in?” We all said yes. Tim's father, his name was Max, was in his mid-50s, quite tall, around 190 and was visibly physically fit. His wife, Tim's mother, had died several years ago. Since then he had not been able to attract a new woman. In addition, he was the boss in his company and was usually home late anyway. He says this while playing poker.

The evening continued to go well for Kevin. If things continue like this, he would have a nice cushion for the rest of the month. Then there were a few laps where Kevin wasn't so lucky, but he already knew that. He was still up about 700. It was already quite late and the poker game was about to end.
