Lexi accepts the Mayors offer

Lexi considered a moment. "Thank you for your offer. I am rather tired and a rest would be welcome," Lexi said gratefully even though she still felt uneasy.

"Excellent!" The Mayor exclaimed. "It would be an honour to have such a distinguished guest staying with us. Please allow me to show you to your room and I'll get Harwin to bring you some food." Lexi was beginning to feel that the Mayor was trying too hard to make her feel at ease. It was as though he was been so cheerful and helpful to hide something.

The Mayor rose and lead Lexi out of the reception room and to the end of the corridor to another staircase leading to the second floor. Lexi was shown to a large room which contained a large four poster bed and dining table that could seat at least four people comfortably. One wall was taken up by two floor to ceiling windows over looking the market square, bordered by thick curtains and two arm chairs placed before them. The other walls were bare and the floor covered in a thick carpet.

"This is too much," Lexi said when she saw the room. She had a feeling this wasn't a guest room and the Mayor's generous hospitality was beginning to make her a little uneasy. It was as if he was trying too hard to impress her.

"Nonsense! After such a travel and coming to our aid without our even asking you deserve to stay in some luxury." The Mayor gave Lexi a friendly smile. "I'll just instruct Harwin to bring you some food."

The Mayor left Lexi alone in the bedroom. She placed her sword belt beside the bed and sat in one of the chairs in front of the windows. She still had an uneasy feeling. Harwin kept looking at her as though she was some object, she hated that and The Mayor was trying too hard to put her at ease and impress her. Lexi knew something was wrong but she couldn't say what at the moment.
