Prince Dewayne lulled by the hypnotic chanting

The man started awake, appearing uncertain if he should speak or what he should do. After a long, uncomfortable moment, he said, "I am Dewayne, Prince of Athenia. I mean no disrespect. I just..."

Rhiamon, (pleased that he was still under her spell) finished his sentence better than he could, "You just answered our summons. You can be of service to protect Athenia tonight."

He stood ready to obey.

Rhiamon secretly hoped that he would survive the extraction of life magic from his body. Years ago (before the matriarchy felt it necessary to give property rights to males and established a patriarchy for governing purposes) she had technological power at her disposal. This prince might be able to raise the matriarchy back to its previous stature, at least in this one kingdom. That would be a start to relearning the technological advancements lost under the rule of male kings.

Melicious raised a cup, "Let us toast to our hero. Oh, shall we pour him a cup as well? Come, hero Dewayne, and drink with us."

Occasionally, when one of the women was speaking to him, one of the others would push the obedience suggestion further into his weak mind without the male ego noticing the intrusion.

He stepped forward to the stone they were using as a table.

They produced a fourth cup (a bit smaller than theirs) and each woman poured half of her drink into it so that he might understand his inferior position in the ritual.

He strained to reach across the stone altar to take the small cup, then stood erect again.

They all raised their cups to the moonlight.

Melicious toasted, "We drink to tonight's defeat of the invading armies of the Earl of Banewasp"

He appeared was shocked to hear this and drank heartily to the defeat of their long-time rival.

He coughed and sputtered. His knees buckled beneath him a bit.

The three witches laughed at his weakness. Clearly, he had not tasted strong liquor before.

Melicious told him, "Don't be ashamed if this liquor is too strong for you. It overpowers many men."

He gulped the remainder of his cup as if his reputation depended on it. "I believe I could acquire a taste for this wine," he said, probably because it was now a symbol of manhood to him.

Rhiamon corrected him, "It is not wine. It has no name in this kingdom, but in other realms, it is called distilled spirits."
