Where to first?
Bixby's Office
Mr. Bixby's office is a tiny windowless room deep in the athletic department's main building. It has one metal desk at the back facing the door, a set of closed lockers, and a few boxes containing different types of athletic equipment. The rest of the space is filled with miscellaneous garbage, tackling dummies, rolled-up nets and mats, tennis racquets, etc.
Abby knocks on the door and steps inside. "Um, you wanted to see me, Mr. Bixby?" she asks, making her way to the desk where the gym coach sits.
"Oh, Abigail. Nice of you to finally show up. I expect a little more punctuality next time," Mr. Bixby began. Abby rolled her eyes. He hadn't mentioned a specific time, just 'after school.' And it was still after school. "Here, have a seat."
"It's just Abby. And no thanks." Abby remains standing with her arms crossed. "What do you want? Why did you call me here? I have things to take care of."
Mr. Bixby smiles. "You know, I like the feisty ones. It's always so gratifying to straighten out a brat with a little discipline. I mean that purely professionally, of course. As a teacher." Bixby slides his chair back from his desk and leans back with his legs spread like he's lounging on a couch at home. He goes on: "Every year I'm given the funding to take on one apprentice to teach in an internship program. One lucky student that gets free board and a hefty stipend to spend however they like. I've chosen you this year."
Abby furrows her brow. "What exactly does being your intern entail? And why me?" She has to wonder what his angle is. So far he had barely spoken to her in class. Certainly no more than any other student. And it certainly wasn't because of her power. There were plenty of powers of much higher caliber than hers in the school.
The coach shrugs. "Honestly, I wouldn't make you do much. Used to be I would train the hell out of the lucky student. But the injury I got back when I was mentoring PowerStar makes it hard these days. As for why - I've got a good eye for talent. Out of all the girls in your class, you seem the most... flexible." He blatantly looks up and down Abby's body with a smirk.
Abby steps back, crossing her arms tighter to cover herself as much as possible. "I don't think so. Find someone else." She wants to say more, but... she had no idea Mr. Bixby had trained PowerStar. PowerStar was her hero, the whole reason she wanted to join the world of superheroics. If only it hadn't been Mr. Bixby she would have jumped at this opportunity.
The coach shrugs. "I already filed the paperwork. It's either you or no one. If you change your mind, the position will still be open for you. Any position you want. And Abigail, so far no girl has turned this opportunity down. And every one of them was thoroughly, completely satisfied." His grin makes Abby's skin crawl.
(High pay)
(Dubious safety)
(No opportunity for advancement)
