Chapter 3 by julianshadows julianshadows

What's out there?

A Carriage and... are those chariots?

Just a few yards outside of the boundary of my existence, a carriage with dead horses and a busted wheel waited as miniature chariots pulled by boars circled it. The chariots were as ramshackle as they were small - like someone or something had seen chariots and decided to imitate them despite no horses or true woodworkers. A flash of green within the chariots caught my eye - Goblins. Which meant inside the chariot was likely a being of light, human perhaps? How long had I waited for this again?

The Goblins started to jump from their chariots with small axes and clubs, rushing the carriage to try and break into it. Can’t have that - funny, I’d never liked stealing kills in games, but here we are. I looked at one of the goblins with God’s Eye first.

Race: Goblin

Level: 5

Class: N/A

Skills: Powerful Blow, Riding, Horde Mentality

Powerful Blow was self-explanatory, Riding as well - took a look anyway, said it worked more like an instinct towards doing the right thing in the heat of the moment - but Horde Mentality, that was a neat little gem. Horde Mentality was taking the idea of having moral support and making it literal - the more allies on their side, the stronger they got with the exception of their health. Yes, he was a level five goblin, but he also had at least twenty other goblins he was working with at similar levels.

In other words, it would be easier to treat each goblin as if it was a level fifteen glass cannon until they were separated.

Before I could try to formulate a plan, the carriage burst open and two figures jumped out with knives. Metal glinted in the sunlight as the two started throwing the knives at the goblins. As they did, a third figure climbed out and pulled themselves onto the roof of the carriage. As the Goblins closed in, taking only a few loses before falling onto the two knife throwers, the third figure gave a hesitant jump and tucked into a roll as they landed behind the goblins before sprinting towards me.

… I guess I don’t need a plan today, they made one that I’m more than happy to humor.

I created an archway of woven vines, sealing it up as the figure entered my forest - The goblins attempted to give chase, and even attacked the vines that formed my archway… to no avail. Their axes ricocheted off the vines. I was just as confused as the goblins appeared to be and turned God’s Eye on myself.

Name: Oasis/Echo/Erlen of the Sunscar

Race: Verdure/Erosarkic

Level: 54

Class: Sorcerer (Level 54, Alchemist)

Skills: Potion Production, Regeneration, Limited Shape-Shift, Seeder, Parallel Cores, Carnation Conquest, Verdant Growth.

So, my ‘God Given’ skills weren’t on display, just the ones natural to my race, class, and size… good to know - maybe it was due to those being blessings from gods, not to mention the gods don’t want their own powers showing their followers that they happen to be cheating little shits game-sharking their way to victory. Not very god-like, that.

Still… How long have I been here!? I got that high up on just a doubled passive experience gain!? Did I sleep for a few decades without noticing!? The fuck is a Sunscar!? How did I miss advancing in class!?

Questions for later.

I looked over the chemicals I could produce with one mind, the other watching the figure and using the various clumps of tentacles to lead them into a small clearing with a lake they’d put in… at some point. I want to say a week ago, but I’ve also fallen asleep a few times since then, so who knows. The chemicals I wanted were picked out, and I started turning a few tentacles on the archway to have ends resembling facemasks before launching them at the goblins. I followed up with a hard dose of nitrous oxide. There was a bit of hysteria, freaking out as they attempted to chop the tentacles off their face - with one even missing and axing himself in the gut - and then **** goblins.

Horde Mentality would be really useful to me, I just needed a way to steal the skill off of them. Waiting pays and sleeping make the wait go faster, meaning I can wait more, now I just need a plan to go into action while I sleep. Booyah.

With the Goblins dealt with, I refocused on the figure they’d been chasing, making sure to have my parallel core research what kind of chemicals and potions we could infuse into the lake. A quick drag and tie up of the goblins ensured safety on that front, and I move to use God’s Eye on my new tenant.

Who was in the Carriage?
