Pretend to look at books

I always had problems with approaching new people, especially cute girls like them - i try to do something to get close to a person and try to act like i'm not intending to talk to them but i get their attention anyway by doing whatever i can i do, i usually find something in my sorroundings and interact with that thing to catch their attention.

And so i did, i headed to the back of the lounge and pretended to look for books at the bookshelf right next to their table - they didn't notice at first but after i stood there like an idiot looking for books i heard Daisy's voice.

"Hey, what are you looking for?" She asked with a playful tone like she knew i wanted to get her attention. I turned around and akwardly said "Uhh, i'm just looking for interesting stuff i guess..." at that point the other girls turned around to stare at me as i didn't know what to do Shit shit shit... how do i continue this, i need to talk to them but without being too direct or i would look like a weirdo... honestly i already look weird so maybe is a good idea to ask if i could join them i said to myself now panicking as i still didn't know what to say.

I thought about one of my usual corny lines and just said it without thinking. "Maybe you girls are what i was looking for... you seem... interesting"

After saying that i thought Really?? You girls are what i was looking for? Is this a romantic story where i just try to get every girl to fall in love with me and that's why i keep saying corny shit like that? This is so stupid...

To my surprise they liked my reply and Scarlet even said "Since you are being so nice about it i guess you could join us" and opened a seat next to her at the table for me to seat on, i happily did and then i found myself sorrounded by 4 cute girls - all of them had a book in hand but stopped reading to look at me. This is uncomfortable, i made it this far but now what? I thought before Daisy started talking

"Do you read any books or are you here just so you can talk to us?" I stuttered "I-i do read books... it's not like, t-the thing is t-that i walked here a-and..." Daisy giggled and then said "Is okay... i was just joking... you do look like someone that reads a lot"

"I mean i do read a lot but not that many books, is more like short stories and you know... stuff in social media, i guess" i replied now more calmed because they weren't questioning my intentions Not like i had bad intentions or nothing but i... i don't know really why i did all of this... anxiety i guess i thought before Daisy continued talking

"Oh that's good... actually May over here said that your introduction was really good... she said it was mysterious and she likes mystery" she winked at her and i looked at May to see that she was blushing - i thought it was cute seeing her like that, even though she was probably just being friendly and her friends tried to embarass her for saying that she liked my speech. "I personally loved your poem, i thought it was great" Daisy said with a smile.

I replied to her saying "Oh thanks... it wasn't that good, i just thought about it and wrote it but it doesn't mean that much" It was hard for me to receive compliments like that but i was getting better at it. Scarlet contributed to the conversation by saying "So you didn't write it from personal experience or anything?"

Damn, what do i say... it was definitely something that i thought about quite often but i don't want to seem like a pathetic guy that can't get a girlfriend and that fails at love i said to myself before replying to Scarlet

"There might have been some inspiration from personal experiences, yes... but it was something that just came to my mind in the moment" they all looked at me skeptically but May decided to say "Well, we don't know if that is true or not so maybe we could start getting to know you"

"And i could get to know you..." i added before we both grinned at eachother like we had been friends for ages and understood eachother so well that we always complemented our sentences. Man i already know that i'm going to have a great chemistry with this May girl, she looks to good to be true but maybe i can be her friend... that would be cool i thought before Daisy exclaimed

"Great idea, we can all get to know eachother and maybe become friends" the other girls smiled, approving the idea that i also liked

"Yeah, that seems cool... you girls look like nice people so i think we are going to get along just fine" i replied and with that everyone smiled and kinda agreed on their minds to become friends - of course they were already friends but now they wanted to get to know me, which was exciting"

So we spent the entire time just introducing ourselves, i got to learn her names and all her traits - there was Daisy, the most friendly and playful person i have ever seen, Scarlet was a bit shy but seemed cool, she was into games and geek stuff so she was my type of girl, Ellie was really cute but i didn't pay much attention to her, the last girl was actually the one that impressed me the most... May.

I inspectioned May for a while with my eyes and realized that she was the most pretty girl i have ever seen - like literally she fulfilled every aspect i wanted in a girl, she was perfect for me but i knew that i was probably just going to be her friend so i stopped fantasizing about her and we kept talking.

They talked about books and said a few facts about the school to help me adapt to it - i already knew most of it but i still appreciated it. After a while of talking Ellie asks me "Do you have a profession in mind that you want to follow or do you want to study everything"

That is a good question i said to myself before replying to her "I don't really know what i want to do after college but i guess that if i take every class then i will be able to choose whatever i want so i will do that"

The other girls joined the conversation, Scarlet said "I want to help the planet and animal so any profession that allows me to interact with nature is good for me" then May commented

"I would like to be a doctor... i know is really difficult but i want to save lives and i think i'm able to learn everything with ease" i looked at her and said "I mean you must be really smart if you want to be a doctor"

"Oh of course i'm smart, you haven't seen what i'm capable of doing" she said with a smirk.

We kept chatting in a friendly way and we exchanged numbers, i joked around quite a lot and they seemed to enjoy my jokes and goofy acts. I think we are becoming friends but i'm not sure sure, i need to spend more time with these girls, they are so cute and fun to hang out with i thought.
