Chapter 16 by cphi cphi

What's next?

Practically alone on the back patio.

Once the baseball game started, everyone packed around the bar and the other TVs. Beth and Kyle headed outside onto the back patio. Neither cared much for the baseball game, and with everyone else packed inside, they were relatively private. Kyle had switched to beer, and was slowing down. Beth had stuck to mixed drinks, and her head was swimming as she plopped down next to him on a bench, straddling it in such a way that her skirt rode dangerously high on her thighs.
".sso Kyle, do you havvv a girlffriend?" she was just sober enough to know she was sloppy drunk, and drunk enough not to care that much.
"No, not for a while." He answered. Whatever he thought about how she was behaving, he was looking into her eyes and wasn't doing anything about her hand on his knee. "I had a girlfriend in high school, but..." he hesitated, and took a pull of beer.
"I'm sssorry, you don't have to talk about it...I was jusst curious."
"It's fine. Sam and I... well we were just kids. We thought it would last forever. But I was deployed overseas pretty quick after basic, and...Jody fucked her."
"Who's Jody?"
"Jody's a catchphrase in the service. Jody's the guy who doesn't go into the service: he stays home and...fucks your wife or your girlfriend. It's a military thing."
"So...not actually a dude named Jody..."
"No.." Anger in Kyle's voice now. "His name wasn't Jody... he was.... someone who was supposed to have my back. I got leave early and wanted to surprise her... shouldn't have done that. Caught them in bed."
"Kyle, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought it up." Beth stroked his arm... Jesus...his muscles are hard as iron...
"It's okay. It's in the past, right?" His eyes were shining. And his gaze was fixed on hers, lips parted. He was breathing heavy, and so was she.
