Practicality Wins Out
No, now is not the time to get sentimental. You don't even know if you could save this stranger's life, given the opportunity, and these aren't exactly optimal conditions for medical care. Even if that mudhound was alone, chances are you aren't the only one who heard this scuffle. Getting caught unawares mid-operation would only result in two seekers dying here, instead of just one.
Your decision made, you take a quick breath and survey the scene one last time. You still don't see a weapon, but it's possible that the wounded hunter has it at their side. If that's the case, you'll let them keep it. You don't even intend to get within arm's reach of the unfortunate stranger. You burst from your hiding place with utmost speed and make a beeline for their bag. You have no way of knowing what's inside, but even the sack itself is a valuable find. The stranger jolts to alertness as you draw close, their eyes meeting yours for a brief moment. You see fear, hope, confusion... your gaze doesn't linger long, though. You don't even slow down as you pass the sack, bending over and snatching it up mid-stride before making your way into the swamp beyond. You hear the stranger's voice, but you can't make out the words.
You keep moving at high speed for a good five minutes, putting some distance between yourself and the scene of the fight. You haul yourself up a knotty tree and finally evaluate your prize. The sack itself is sturdy enough, the fabric woven from at least two separate types of fiber. You doubt the previous owner made it themselves, out in the jungle. They probably traded for it, or stole it. Or scavenged it from the dead, as you have. Opening it up, you find some dried meat, a half-full waterskin, a handful of arrowheads, a skinning knife, and an unfinished carving. A monkey's face grins at you from a chunk of wood about the size of your forearm, a surprising amount of detail given to the shape of the snout and ears. In its current condition, it's not much good to you, and you doubt you could match the craftsmanship enough to finish the piece. You put it aside and continue to evalute your findings.
At the bottom of the sack, you find a number of animal teeth, fat seeds, polished stones, and other small objects, potentially valuable supplies and materials, though none especially useful on their own. The seeker was doing fairly well for themself, before this unsuccessful hunt. You take a sip of the water, cooling your body after your intense sprint, and give thanks to the dying stranger. You have a definite headstart on your quest, now. The only question is how best to utilize it...
