Chapter 17 by bobbobbobthethir bobbobbobthethir

What do you do?

Play the Long Game. You’ll See Her Around Eventually

“Thanks for the tip,” you say. “I’ll keep an eye out for her.”

“Yeah, no problem,” Griffin says. “Just make sure to remember me if you ever get a chance to return the favour.”

“If all goes well, that shouldn’t be too much longer,” you say.

“So things are going well with other girls? Who do you think’s a likely? I find that it can be hard to tell sometimes… hell, it was even the case with Rachel. I thought she hated my guts at first.”

“Dude, it’s not that hard to tell. All you’ve got to do is look at the score on the right side.”

“What?”

“Nevermind, that’s a reference not worth explaining,” you say, a little disappointed that Griffin isn’t a user of Chyoa as well. Either that, or he’s not willing to admit it. “Where are you headed next? I was thinking that I might go back to the hall lounge and get some work done. There’s still a crap ton of assignments that I have to get caught up on.”

“I’ve got class,” Griffin says. “Catch you later at the party tonight?”

“If work goes well,” you say, waving goodbye.

You head back to the lounge, and take a look around. There’s a few others quietly working on their own stuff with headphones on, nobody that you feel close enough to that you’d be willing to interrupt them, so you find a seat by an empty table and get started.

First, you have to figure out what to work on. There’s a chemistry assignment due, an economics problem set, and some reading for psychology. You figure that even though you’ve got psychology this afternoon, you can probably get by with a quick skim. Between economics and chemistry, well, one’s your intended major, and the other’s not, so you crack open the chemistry textbook and get to work.

Though there are quite a few problems, they’re not too hard. Mostly, it’s just explaining and recalculating the results of famous experiments relating to atomic theory. You’re just getting into the flow of things, when you feel somebody sit down across from you.

“There’s a jazz quintet performing at the amphitheatre,” Tatiana says, slinging her backpack onto the table. “I hear that they’re pretty good, and that there’s free snacks out too. I figured you’d want to know, want to come along?”

You look up at the Russian beauty, weighing the option in your head. Get some work done, or have some fun?
