Chapter 11 by cphi cphi

What's next?

Play something for me...

Beth finished up the lesson with Paul, after which he asked Jeff if he could play on his Xbox. Jeff had showered and come back downstairs in loose hanging shorts with a plain white t-shirt stretched tight over a muscular chest. The older boy nodded, and Paul practically flew up the stairs, leaving {Jeff) shaking his head and chuckling.
"Kids these days, huh?"
"...yeah..." Beth tore her eyes away from his pecs. "Kids.."
"I'm always impressed. I think your lessons are the only thing that can tear him away from his video games on a regular basis." Jeff sauntered over, smiling.
"Well, he's got the ability to play well as long as he applies himself. My biggest job is to make it exciting for him. If you give your student a love for the instrument, they'll stick with it."
"What was that you were teaching him?" Jeff was moving closer, until he was at her shoulder.
"Arpeggios. It's where you play a chord but you play each note at a time instead of all at once."
"I'm afraid, I don't know much about music, can you play something as an example... for me?"
Beth wished her heart didn't skip a beat when he said "for me." "Um...yeah sure... here's a song you probably know that uses arpeggios..." Beth started playing "Clocks" by Coldplay, a simple enough song with repeated arpeggios.
"Huh... I guess I never realized that's what that was..." Jeff leaned over her to watch her fingers. "You can play that from memory, huh? Impressive."
"It's a pretty simple song." Beth's voice almost broke. Why is my mouth so dry? I need to stop acting like a horny teenager... but she couldn't help but feel a rush of blood to the head with his body so close... "Anyway... I should get going..."
Beth started to gather up her materials, and Jeff sighed almost imperceptibly. "Hey, listen... I'm not sure what you're doing on Sunday, but some of the guys from the team and I are having a pickup game in the park. You should come watch." Beth eyed him sideways as she felt her breath catch. I'm getting married, why is he inviting me to go watch his baseball game? {if Shame < 86
}Still, the idea of hanging out with Jeff and six other fit athletic young baseball players like him... {endif}
