Chapter 19
by Manbear
Do you ask about the notebook, or just chat while you wait for the pizza?
Peek while she washes up
You chat about her classes for a minute or two, and when the timer on the oven goes off excuse yourself so you can check on the pie.
"I'll be right back,Stephen." Sandra informs you from the other room, I'm just going to wash up before we eat. You turn the pizza so it browns evenly and as you head back with the salad to the other room you see the leather bound notebook still just peaking out from under the throw pillow. The temptation to see what Sandra is guarding is too much, and you flip through the pages looking for whatever it is. When you come upon the sketches in her book you wish you hadn't invaded her privacy, but once seen, you cannot put down the book.
The drawings look like they were done with soft pencils, and you're no expert but they all look a little rough. It is not the quality of the artwork that suddenly has made it hard to breath though, it is the scenes depicted that have you dumb-struck.
Clearly inspired by Rae's captivity in the Mad Overlord's dungeons, the drawings all show a young big-breasted female bound to the dark walls of the dungeon. Unlike Sandra's cleric however, who has so avoided the worst of the horrors of the Overlord's justice, this beautiful young woman has been stripped of all her clothing and in some at least shows evidence of whippings and other ****.
In spite of the disturbing content of the drawings you find yourself getting aroused. Is this what Sandra thinks will happen to Rae as she spends the night chained to the wall of her cell? As you think back to the texts the night before, she made it pretty clear that she didn't really expect to make it through the night without further humiliation. You just didn't think a shy religious woman like her would have these kinds of erotic/troubling pictures in her head, and certainly not take the time to put them into her character's notebook.
Perhaps, the scenes depicted do have to do with Sandra's upbringing as a conservative Jew. You remember reading about the Spanish Inquisition in high school and hearing that too often the victims of the over zealous inquisitors were the young wives and daughters of the men believed to be heretics. One of the pictures in the book was not unlike the drawings, although the young woman in question was wearing a simple smock to preserve her modesty. Undoubtedly, in her Hebrew school, the Spanish inquisition must have been covered in much greater detail than the three paragraphs in your European History text. Was this the inspiration for these troubling scenes?
You had worked out a pretty PG ending to Rae's dilemma that involved having the Cleric spend a cold lonely the night in her cell and then be released when her party comes to the court demanding the Cleric's freedom. The second part is fine, but spending the night unmolested in her cell just doesn't seem very realistic anymore. Having seen Sandra's artwork, you are having trouble imagining that the rough guards who patrol the nighttime prison cells would be able to resist the temptation of a 17 charisma innocent maiden chained all but naked alone in her cell.
The last picture has the poor cleric kneeling on the floor of the cell with her arms upstretched as her breasts are being struck.
Even more than the other four, you find the combination of sexiness and pain disturbing, but before you can come to terms with what you are feeling, you hear the door to the bathroom open and you realize you have to put this book back - and put it back quickly.
You push it under the pillow and move quickly to the table so you are not anywhere near the couch when Sandra rounds the corner. Is your face as red as it feels? Damn-it Stephen, why did you have to look in that fucking book?
How does the conclusion of Rae's solo run go?
