Open the Hatch

If they don’t want me in there, that must be where they are hiding the good equipment. Nothing in the rules about that.

Rosa throws the rope over the crossbeam and quickly ties it off on the ring of the trap door.

Here goes a dumb idea. She thinks, stepping up onto a small bed. She grabs the rope and jumps off the bed. Her counterweight yanks the hatch open and it slams open onto the floor. It has a heavy steel weight on the underside, probably so the girls couldn’t lift it.

Well now I can’t close it, because I wouldn’t be able to lift it from the other side.

She looks down inside, the hatch was covering a ladder descending into what looks like a semi-finished cave. It’s lit down there, and quiet.

Rose tries to retrieve the rope, but it’s pinned under the hatch. Which she can’t lift it to undo her knot.

Well at least it was useful.

She climbs down into the cave. The ladder is at the top of a long slope, so she follows it down.
