Chapter 12 by Mogue Mogue

How carefully does Tony read the paperwork?

Not carefully enough

Tony scanned the paperwork, his excitement distracting his attention. There wasn't likely to be anything too sketchy in these forms, was there? He turned some pages over looking at the legalese scrawled out on them.

The NDA appeared to mainly be a blanket prohibition on revealing any qualia of the work being done, as well as any trade secrets or patents that could be worth millions, if not billions to Lab Syn. Tony had expected as much, this was the pharma industry after all. He signed it without a second thought.

The consent forms were a little harder to parse. Tony read through them a few times, not really understanding what privileges they granted Lab Syn, but as best as he could tell, they allowed the lab to take "steps to guarantee privacy for all employees" and "copyright over all new discoveries made by employees". Then there were some other sections he wasn't really clear on. Not wanting to waste too much time, he signed those too.

The other forms were standard government and insurance forms, which while taking a little longer (he really had to sign his legal name three different times on the same page?), held few surprises. The final form was an agreement of employment, going over hourly rate, terms of employment, and job requirements. Everything on that page made Tony's mouth water.

After he was all done, he stood and pressed the button on the wall. It dinged and lit up, blinking slowly for a few minutes, before returning to its unlit white sheen. A minute later, Stephan opened the door, picking up the paperwork.

"Looks like you're all settled. Let's see the machines, why don't we?

Time for a Tour
