David thought about an excuse that wouldn’t sound stuck up, she hated stuck up whores. “Sorry guys, I am headed to a nice hotel and they are paying me a lot more than that.” She heard them grumble but move on, as she continued walking a thought struck her. She couldn’t call herself David anymore. She needed a girl’s name. As she continued to walk down the street she ran though names in her head. Dao, she thought, it meant star and was close enough to David that she would answer to it.

She looked around the crazy sight, smells and sounds. She wondered to herself what her next move was. She need a place to sleep, it was almost midnight. It occurred to her she still had her credit card. She knew of a few places that didn’t check ID when they ran your card.

She quickly made her way through the winding streets of Bangkok to a small hotel. She walked into the lobby with the self-assurance she had as a man. “Excuse me, I need to rent a room for the night,” David, no, Dao said.

The clerk looked her up and down. “Really,” he asked skeptically.

“Yes, I don’t plan on having any guests if that is what you’re worried about. Even girls…like me need a night off. Might as well make it nice, right.”

The clerk raised an eyebrow and shrugged. “The basic room will run $250 US. And a $50 deposit.”

Without thinking about it, Dao handed over her Amex card. The clerk ran it though and a moment later looked up. “I am sorry but it has been declined.”

Shit, Dao thought to herself when she went missing they must have cancelled her cards. Cash, I still have cash. She reached into her purse and pulled out three one hundred dollar bills. “Here, will that do?” she asked.

“Yes, most certainly Ms…”

“Dao,” she said.

“Of course, here is your room key.”

“Thank you.” With a sigh she took the elevator to the tenth floor and went into her room. Dao fell onto the bed and was immediately asleep.
