Jake scrambled off the bed as Tariq advanced. He stepped backwards, moving away from the vampire.

Suddenly, Jake's back hit the door. He felt behind him, and touched the handle. As Tariq charged at him, Jake turned the knob, and fell into the corridor.

For a few seconds, Jake lay on the ground, recovering from his shock. To his surprise, Tariq didn't leap on top of him. Jake looked back at the room. It was empty again.
