Teysa tossed aside her spear and stared defiantly at the drider matron. "I won't. She's beaten. I won't kill a beaten foe."

The driders in the audience reared up in shock. A couple of them hissed. The matron remained impassive. Teysa stood there, chest rising and falling. For a moment, the tableau was still: Kyrness, bleeding on the ground; Teysa standing over her; and the matron, staring down at them both. Finally, the drider spoke.

"Hyou defy me? On the brink of apotheosissssss? Why?"
