"No." She said sternly, then her voice changed. "I...I can't. I'm too nervous. I'm sorry."

John just looked at her, unsure of what to say.

"I'm so sorry." She looked like she might cry.

"I'm not upset. You're the one who asked me to do it. I'm fine either way." He rubbed her back, trying to comfort her.

"But it's something special to you, and I know you really wanted to do it it." She buried her head against him.

He picked her up, and carried her over to her bed, then set her down and curled up around her, both of them on their sides. They lay there for a while, with him holding her, until she finally relaxed.

"You know what." He said, breaking the long silence. "I'm taking us out to dinner tonight. Nothing special, nothing fancy. Just pizza or something...like the old days."

She looked up at him, smiled, then snuggled against him.

"I need to rest for a while." She said. "My body is kind of sore from last night, and still reeling from the new feelings." With that, she closed her eyes, and he continued to hold her as they both drifted back to sleep.
