Chapter 5
by Suckersoprano
Does he knock?
No.
Dago didn’t knock on the door, but he stayed behind it, trying to see if he understood the conversation. He only knew of a few people who could speak Russian and… well, he only knew Natalie could speak it. He didn’t understand a word of Russian, so eavesdropping was really pointless. Unfortunately, he didn’t get a chance to decide against it because soon Natalie ended the call and opened up her door. She seemed only mildly surprised that he was there. Dago figured she could hear him, no matter how quiet being a vampire made him.
“Is there something you needed?” she said icily, clearly not happy he was listening at her door.
“No, I was about to knock and thank you for showing me the ropes,” Dago said, keeping up a poker face. If he acted like he did nothing wrong, she couldn’t get mad, right?
“Which you apparently learned by listening at my door,” she replied tersely.
“I was waiting for you phone call to end, I didn’t understand anything,” he said, trying not to sound defensive.
Natalie ignored his comment, “Today is your last day of Lilith’s test then.”
Dago nodded. Natalie gave him a hard look, “Keep it up then. What I said stands for a lot longer than that.”
“Of course,” Dago said genuinely, “I’m not going to break her trust any more than you will.”
“We’ll see about that,” said Natalie, starting to walk away.
Go after her?
