Chapter 3 by tentaichi tentaichi

What happens next?

No more boys

The two young women walked into the classroom together. Jessica hadn’t taken more than one step through the doorway when a pair of arms pulled her into an embrace from behind. She turned around to look at who was hugging her only to cry:

“Will?!”

But it couldn’t have been. The face smiling at her had a lot of the features of her old friend’s, yet it was clearly a different person. For starters, Will was several inches taller. He had shorter hair, and wasn’t likely to randomly hug her from behind. And he definitely wouldn’t be wearing a miniskirt to class.

“Arthur?!” The girl exclaimed, hands covering her mouth in mock surprise. “I’m sorry, I don’t know what we’re doing here. It’s Billie. Billie? We went to secondary school together?”

Seeing that Jessica was still rooted to the spot she nudged her and added helpfully,

“We went to sixth-form together?”

Jessica shook her head, trying to form a coherent thought. Standing in front of her was a girl that could have been Will’s sister but didn’t appear to have heard of him. On top of that she claimed to have gone to school with Jessica – but that wasn’t possible. The only person at St Catherine’s that Jessica knew was Will.

“Good morning Billie,” she said, putting on what she hoped was a relaxed smile. “How did you sleep?”

“Like a log,” came the response. Billie hopped up onto the side of a desk to continue the conversation. “A certain teacher may have made an appearance in a dream or two and that definitely didn’t hurt.”

Billie’s eyes took on a mischievous glint as she recalled her dreams. Her reminiscing was cut short, however, by the arrival of their teacher. He took his place at the front of the classroom while the assembled schoolgirls scrambled to find their seats.

Now that Jessica looked, the room did appear to only have female students in. About half of the girls in the room were unfamiliar to her, but if she concentrated she could match them up with the boys she had gotten to know over the last couple of weeks. Apparently, her tiny skirt wasn’t the only strange thing to have happened today.

For the rest of the day Billie and Jessica spent as much time as possible together. On her side, Billie seemed to regard Jessica as her best friend. Jessica at first just wanted to get to know this new version of Will, but as the day wore on she found herself liking the young woman more and more. Their friendship felt right, like they had grown up together. Even the embarrassment of wearing such a short skirt around school didn’t affect her as much when Billie was around, though it helped that there were no boys to ogle her.

Come the evening, Billie retired early from the common room. Jessica stayed up for a little longer, but mostly let the other girls’ conversations wash over her. She was still in a state of total confusion, wondering what on earth was happening to her. She also missed Will, as the two had grown close through spending so much time together recently. Still, her new friendship with Billie was enough to put her at ease. Things might keep on changing, but with such a supportive friend by her side Jessica thought she might just be able to get by.

She bade the girls in the common room goodnight and walked over to her bedroom. She was looking forward to a good night’s rest, but on opening her bedroom door she was given one last shock for the night.

What does she see?
