Chapter 4 by SquashedFlat SquashedFlat

Deal?

No Deal.

"Ah ain't fallin' for yer tricks, Lucy. Ah know you better than that." Texas snorted, pushing away the shotglass of whisky that Lucy had somehow refilled again. "You wanna get me in one o' yer rooms so you can take some nice **** photos of the sheriff? Well that ain't a game ah'm playin'! Now tell me about the disappearances and stop wasting my time!" The weasel finished, her voice raising. It was only as her shouting faded away that she noticed that the noise of the piano and the low murmuring from the patrons and skunks had gone silent. Glancing to her left, the weasel noticed the skunk by the stairs had her eyes firmly fixed on Texas, while her hand had snaked into the hidden pocket of her dress, no-doubt resting on that secret pistol the sheriff had noticed earlier. Lucy noticed this too, and raised a hand to calm the skunk down.

"ArrĂȘtez, Melody." Lucy said, and the skunk guard relaxed slightly, removing her hand from her weapon. Her eyes still tracked Texas warily though. The madame looked back to Texas and narrowed her eyes. "As for you, sheriff, I believe you have overstayed your welcome. I have tried to be hospitable, and you have thrown that back in my face. Therefore, I insist that you leave. Immediately." She said forcefully, while Texas grit her teeth. She still didn't have any information, and despite Lucy's guard, she was pretty sure she could strong-arm the skunk into telling her what she wanted to know. Lucy was a schemer, not a fighter, after all. On the other hand, that wasn't the kind of person Texas was, and lackey of the mayor or not Lucy was still a citizen of this town, who Texas was sworn to protect and serve. Maybe it would be wisest just to de-escalate the situation and go back to her patrol?
