Chapter 4
by ltbdoe
Does anything happen before lab testing?
No (submissive route)
A week into the study Jane can confidently say she has noticed no changes in the time being. Taking blood sugar and pressure daily is little more than a chore; the supplement less so. Its taste can be best likened to bad licorice, without the satisfaction of its sweetness or its saltiness. She may have felt more energetic if she had not already been sunburned days prior.
"You sure you don't want me to go with you?" He shouts.
"Its an in and out appointment" Jane returns. "Besides, you have things you need to do here." With that Jane is out the door.
Even though the clinic is just as chaotic as last time it seems much more mundane. The nurse administers a brief physical and blood draw and documents the sunburn as it "might be important." With that Jane leaves and heads out to the parking lot. Just beyond the doors, Jane spies a well-tanned and fit woman. Her loose clothing does little to hide her curvasive latin hips. She drags a cigarette, clearly upset judging by her face and the way she nervously plays with her wavy brown hair.
Earnestly concerned, Jane approaches and softly asks "Is everything okay?"
Annoyed, the woman replies" Look, I'm fiiiiiii..." She stops as she locks eyes with Jane. Her face and posture soften; and the cigarette she had been clenching falls from her relaxed hand to the floor. At a quick glance this woman's eyes would appear as just green. But as Jane gazes, she inspects the dancing colors dancing in the mix. Touches of gold embrace her cornea, Jane finds herself lost in a living Rorschach blot. Minutes pass until Jane finally blinks.
"What is the big idea!?!" the woman blurts. "And look at what you did!" pointing to her fallen menthol. "This study is worthless, I am more stressed than when I started." She starts to pull another cigarette when the two lock eyes again.
Surprising herself, Jane commands "You don't need it; you can stop if you want" before breaking eye contact.
"I've been trying, but quitting cold is probably the best option." She tosses the pack she had been holding in a nearby bin. "Sorry, for not introducing myself sooner. Name's Maria."
"Jane," she states in reply.
"Nice to meet you Jane, but can you do me a favor and forget the study. I don't think I am allowed to talk about that."
"Trusst meee" Jane hisses as she once again locks eyes with Amber. "I am sure we are in the same supplement study."
"Do you want to go someplace else?" Maria asks.
