Chapter 3
by cariadferch-usa
Do you go to the auction?
No, not your cup of tea.
Though greatly touched by your friend Teri's generosity the more you think about a bachelor auction the less thrilled you become. You still have, however, Teri's $5,000 for the hospital, so there is little choice but to take a drive. Getting into your red Lexus convertible coupé, one of the few things you got from the divorce, you head out and hit horrible traffic trying to get to the ritzy conference center where the auction is being held. Adding to your woes, when you arrive, the parking garage is full.
Finally getting to the center's main hall the auction is already underway. The crowd is older, with more men in attendance then you would have thought. The sight of older ladies bidding on barely attractive businessman, while creepy guys hit on the female attendees, sours your mood even more. Giving away your ticket to some stranger and dropping the $5,000 in the donation box you decide to bail on the event altogether. After texting Teri that you're having a great time and thanking her for the generous gift, you ponder out loud, as is your habit, "Well then Ms. Summers, what shall we do tonight?" Figuring that you're all dressed you check the city's "what's happening now" app on your phone and then head downtown to have a little fun.
Leaving the convention center you walk the two blocks to the central park, where surrounding the woodland area are many of the city's entertainment options, including, several notable restaurants, expensive boutiques, a riverboat casino, dance clubs, a hockey game at the sports arena, a lecture about Victorian clothing at the art museum, and the flower garden in the park itself.
"Hey hot stuff." A crass voice, though not without urban charm, whistles out as you walk by Gazongas Sports Bar & Gentleman's Club. "You're a sinch to win. An easy $500 for curves like that." Looking back you see a leering guy point to the "Wet T-Shirt Contest Tonight" sign.
"Sorry." You shoot back as you head down the street, "my competition days ended with college." Shaking your head in amused offense you ponder your less juvenile options for the evening.
Where do you go?
