After the initial shock of hearing Louisa's voice coming through so clearly in her mind, Ashleigh had tried to ignore her. She had gone to bed and slept deeply, the exhaustion of the mental battle draining her. When she woke, she had expected Louisa to have retreated, but she had been mistaken.

'Stop ignoring me,' Louisa said, her voice echoing in Ashleigh's mind.

'Go away, you're not in control,' Ashleigh thought, her teeth clenched. She wrapped the pillow around her ears, hoping it would somehow muffle the sound of her inner voice.

'No, you're the one who needs to go away. You're the parasite who took over my body,' Louisa retorted, the internal voice seeming to gain volume. 'Now get out.'
