Chapter 8

Who's Next?
Nadene
You thought about it for the next few days and decided you were going to give a younger woman a shot again. Maybe things would be a little different with someone in their mid to late twenties versus the early twenty women you've known. Plus you weren't looking to date her. How to get her to want you though? That was the question. You decided to start at the beginning.
You'd gone to the grocery store to pick up some items for that night's dinner. Nadene was there with her husband who didn't seem to give a crap about checking out any of the women there. You remember chuckling to yourself when you saw Nadene give him a whack on the arm and stomp off to go grab an item near you. You took a risk, but you told her if she wanted to get back at her husband she could check you out, and then you dropped an item on the ground and bent over in an exaggerated manner so she could see your butt. Fortunately your humor lined up with hers and she laughed. You introduced yourself afterwards and had a pleasant chat about nothing in particular afterwards, and from that point on the two of you would usually stop and shoot the shit if time allowed.
She was easy to talk with, seemed flirty at first but would also suddenly get fairly reserved, and definitely seemed happy to see you each time. You also knew her husband was pushing for an open marriage from the conversation you had overheard. Really you didn't need to reinvent the wheel here you decided. She was always up for talking, so you could ask if something was wrong making it seem like something felt off to you about her. Hopefully she'd mention her problem with her husband to you, and then if she didn't you could wing it maybe or wait for next time with a new plan.
You went to the grocery store for a couple days hoping to bump into her, but it wasn't until the third day that you saw her familiar red hair turn down an aisle. You were almost nervous about it. Younger women were not your usual cup of tea, but you were attracted to who you were attracted to so you took a deep breath and turned down the same aisle where Nadene was checking out some coffee.
"Oh hey Nadene" you said pulling up next to her with a smile.
"Oh...hey Davin" she said glumly. You gave her a once over really quick. All the signs were there. She sounded defeated, her usual smile was missing, and she even looked bummed out. You felt a little guilty in that you felt lucky for it, since it worked well with your plan. You suppose it is good you have a little humility left. Even though you're looking for people in situations they'd be willing to cheat with you, there was still a part of you that felt bad that they were in those situations.
"Everything ok, you seem a little bummed" you ask. She lets out a deep sigh.
"You ever find yourself in a situation where it feels like whatever you decide will still hurt" she asks you.
"Yah, those situations happen from time to time. They suck" you respond.
"What do you usually do in those situations" she asks.
"Er...well, that's kind of hard to answer really. Most situations like that are pretty unique. That said there are common things I tend to do in each situation" you reply.
"Such as" she says wanting you to continue.
"Such as getting advice from people who don't have a dog in the fight so to speak. That way you can get some unbiased opinions about whatever the issue is and then you can get an idea of how others would deal with the issue themselves. If it is a choice of the lesser of two evils sometimes it is nice to find what evil others see as the lesser. Granted, you might get some pretty crazy opinions on it, but some will resonate with you" you reply. She lets out another deep sigh as she gets lost in thought about her issue.
"Tell you what" you say looking in her cart. "It doesn't look like you have anything that will melt, so why don't we go grab a coffee in the store's coffee shop, you can tell me what is going on, and I can offer advice. If you want to that is, no pressure, but I promise no judgment" you tell her. Again she looks like she is thinking to herself for a moment.
"Why not. I have an idea of how I'm going to handle this anyways, but it wouldn't hurt to get an outside perspective on it too" she says. You both wheel your carts over to the small coffee shop the store offers its customers. You both remain silent with the exception of your orders, and getting your drinks you both sit in a secluded table.
"So hit me with it. I'm always seeing you smiling when we talk, but today you aren't so it seems like it's a pretty serious thing" you tell her and then take a sip of your drink.
"Ok, here goes. I'll provide a little context. So the last four months or so I've noticed a lack of...erm...well, intimate times with my husband. Even when I started initiating more he seemed **** or just said no. That's fine, I don't want to **** anything, but it was a drastic enough change that I worried about it. I finally asked him a few weeks ago why and he hit me with a doozy. He said he enjoyed it with me, but lately he'd been feeling like it wasn't satisfying for him. That it was becoming boring. This was news to me as I felt like I was more than willing to experience new things, he just needed to ask. He said that wasn't the problem, his problem was he felt like he needed to get with other people in order to feel fulfilled" she explained.
"So, he wants to divorce" you asked knowing that wasn't it.
"No, he was adamant he didn't want that. What he wants is an open relationship" she answered. You let your eyes widen a moment as if shocked at his proposal.
"Putting you in the position of either agreeing or breaking up" you asked rhetorically. Nadene nodded her head in agreement.
"Not going to lie, that's a whopper Nadene. Give me a moment to think here" you said sympathetically. So, it was confirmed, he wants an open relationship. She's trying to figure out if she should accept that for their marriage's sake, or book it. You'd assume she's leaning towards leaving him. Ok, enough thought, let's see what she thinks of your solution.
"Ok, so first off. Keep in mind these are my own opinions. You are entirely free to ignore them completely, you aren't going to hurt my feelings if you disagree with part or all of it. Now that we have that out of the way. It could be that he is being truthful and that he just needs other people to feel sex is satisfying to him. I doubt it, but I'll admit it is a possibility. I would wager it is more likely he either has someone on the side he wants permission to cheat with, maybe already cheating, or he's not happy in the relationship and he's come up with this idea in order for you to be the one to start the break up. It isn't uncommon for people to start acting like asses in order to get their partner to break it off because they are too insecure to do it themselves" you state.
"So how would you handle this then" she asks.
"Well you got a couple options. I'd assume you are leaning towards divorce, yes" you ask. She nods her head in agreement.
"So that is certainly one way to handle it. The other is to accept it" you say with a smirk. Her eyes get wide and then her eyebrows show she clearly wants you to elaborate.
"Hear me out here. Keep in mind my opinion is that he either already has someone in mind he wants to have sex with, maybe even already has been, or that he wants you to start the divorce process. Maybe even both. So in that case call his bluff basically. Accept it, tell him he can do whatever he wants, and that you are going to do the same. Then find someone and actually go do something with them. If your mind is already set on divorce then that means you are already divorced from the relationship. Go have some fun, make him jealous. I'm betting if you went on a date with someone he'd be really surprised, because I'm fairly certain he is expecting you to say that divorce is the only option" you say.
"Hmmm...I don't know, I don't even know that many people since we moved here" she says while clearly in thought.
"Well, like I said, it's just my perspective of things" you reply.
"You know what" she says suddenly more excited "Fuck it. I'm going to tell him yes. Let's do the open marriage. I was already going to ask for a divorce, since I suspected like you did that he has someone already, so tonight we'll sit down and talk, and I'll tell him let's do the open marriage. I'll see how he reacts" she exclaims.
"There you go. I'll bet he'll either be really happy, or he'll be really surprised and unenthusiastic depending on what his goal is. We should exchange numbers so you can text me how it goes" you reply.
"Sure, let me get my phone out" she states digging through her purse. You exchange numbers and she thanks you for your input on the matter. Surprisingly she gives you a hug as you're saying your goodbyes. You aren't really sure if you made a great argument for your plan, but it seems to have worked.
How's her conversation go?
