Chapter 21 by amanhasnoname430 amanhasnoname430

What's next?

Missing!

I woke up from a really strange dream. There was dark red rooms, screaming, pain, pleasure, and a woman's face. Only she wasn't a woman really. She was a demon or something. I shuddered. I looked around the room to see Mary, cozy and sleeping next to me. Her friends were gone but I didn't care. I leaned over and snuggled up to Mary and she stirred.

"Wha? Oh. What the fuck? What are you doing here?" She sounded alarmed.

"What do you mean? I fell asleep here." I said with confusion.

"Yeah, two nights ago. Then you vanished and nobody could find you. Oliver stopped by this house. He's watching you by the way." She sounded hurt.

"Two nights... No, we just had a big orgy on your floor with Erin and the other girls. That was like 3 hours ago." I said.

"It was yesterday. Whatever just. I need sleep, I have church in the morning." She turned over and grabbed her pillow. I tried to hold her but she turned back with an angry face. "No. Please, just leave. We can talk tomorrow." I looked dejected but I got up and started walking out of the house. I had to remember to put clothes on, it was a new chore I wasn't used to.

I got out onto her front porch and started walking home when a green motorcycle pulled up in front of Mary's house, riding it was a very annoyed looking Green Arrow.

"Where the fuck were you? Get on." Oliver said through his voice modulator. I reluctantly got on the bike and we rushed down the streets of Star City. He pulled into some random alley and turned off his bike. "You disappeared. For 24 hours. How the fuck did you manage that?" He looked pissed.

"I don't know what anyone is talking about. I went to sleep at a girlfriends house, from my perspective that was last night. I don't remember being gone, honestly." I said quickly trying not to get killed again with an arrow.

"Well, gone is exactly what you were. I put this on you when we were training." He reached behind my neck and pulled out a small pin. It hurt when he pulled it out and it was blinking. "This would've tracked you anywhere on the planet and you didn't remove or turn it off. So where did you go?" He said this more in contemplation than anger. Like he needed to figure this out.

"I had a weird dream. If that helps?" I offered.

"Explain it."

"Just. Red rooms and screaming and a demon lady. It looked like Hell, could I have been in Hell?" Oliver's face got dark and solemn.

"I don't know but that would explain all of this. Why would you be in Hell? It was for exactly 24 hours too, to the second. Did you cast some spell? Make a deal?" He started interrogating me.

"I have no idea. I don't remember doing any of that. I found my powers by accident!" I shouted and then covered my mouth when I realized I let it slip.

"Powers... The not getting tired?" He looked severe.

"Uh." I wanted to lie desperately. I didn't want him to think I was an unkillable mind controller. That would get me back in Iron Heights or wherever the Flash keeps the Metas. I also didn't think I could pull off lying to Oliver Queen. "No. My other powers." I said wincing.

"Eric. What other powers? Explain, now." He spoke softly but the urgency was there.

"I can, mind control people?" His eyes got big. "I don't know the extent of the power and I've only used it to get laid. I just know that it only works on people who are one status above me or below that." He walked back from me and leaned on his bike.

"Okay, ANYTHING ELSE? Never get tired, can't be killed maybe, mind control. Why didn't you tell me this in the park?" He was shouting again.

"I didn't wanna end up with arrows in my chest? I didn't wanna end up wherever the Flash keeps his guys or Arkham. I don't know what you would do to me. And judging by your reaction, I was right to be cautious." I said standing up for myself.

Oliver looked angry and then forcefully calmed himself down. "I just. I just want to know what is out there. You're not the first person to develop powers, hell you're not even the first mind controller in this city. But I gotta know if you are on our side or not or if there is reason to be worried. You can be cautious but I get to be cautious too. Have you mapped your power yet?"

"Mapped it? Figured out its limitations you mean? My control seems to be permanent, I haven't tried to release anyone yet so I might be able to do that. It also gives people heart shaped pupils. I can mentally or verbally command someone unless they have a conflicting command from someone above me. That's about it." I said. Oliver took this all in then he actually smiled.

"I think its time for another training session." He said.

We rushed through the streets down to the lower levels of the freeways. We were under the buildings in the very heart of the city. Then, Oliver took a right turn into a small cut in on the freeway and we were encased in blackness. He pulled the bike up to what might have been a wall and then the lights came on. I could see a few vehicles parked in this small lot, including Black Canary's bike. He lead me into two double metal doors and then we were inside.

Team Arrow's hideout was beautiful. A big center stage with monitors lining the perimeter. Big glass cases for outfits of the different heroes in the city including Speedy, Spartan, and Black Canary as well as a few others I didn't recognize but could guess, sat along the side of the wall. This place had cuts and crash marks from the various invasions it had suffered. Most notably was the fact that nobody was around.

"Where is everyone?" I asked. My voice echoed.

"At home sleeping. We can do this alone. Come on." He said leading me behind the elevator at the other end of the base and down some stairs. We walked down to jail cells that were mostly empty. They looked unused too. At the end of the jail block was a set of lit up cells with plexiglass on the front. One guy sat alone, looking at us from the dark. He had a big Beta symbol on his shoulder and he was shivering from what looked like ****. I recognized him from Warehouse L4. He recognized me too and his eyes filled with fear.

"Have you seen this man before?"

"Yes, he was at the warehouse where I got killed." I said.

"Yep. He has information on the whereabouts of his boss. I want you to extract it from him." Oliver said flatly.

"Can't you just do it? He's a Beta can't you compel him to talk?" I asked.

"His boss has access to ARGUS fabric tech. He is immune to status commands." Oliver said. Wait, there was tech that could bypass status's? This was news to me.

"Social Fabric? That can be manipulated?" I asked. Oliver got annoyed quickly.

"Figure out where it is, and we can ask them."

Alright geez. Okay I reached out and controlled him. His eyes went heart shaped and then I issued my command tell me only the truth and the whole truth. "Where is your boss?"

"He is in Corto Maltese. He lives down on the promenade somewhere. That's all I know." I looked back to Oliver who nodded.

"Good, figure out where the shipments came from at L4." I looked over at the guy then just issued the command answer any and all questions put to you honestly and completely. I then looked at Oliver.

"You ask him. I just made him honest forever." I said grinning. Ollie looked at me with concern and then started asking questions. The guy spilled the locations of as much as he knew, everything his gang was planning, and where they were going next. Eventually Oliver got up, satisfied with the info and walked us back up into the main room.

"So? Was that good or what? I could totally be your interrogator if you need one. No **** either, perfectly humane information extraction." I said, smiling at myself.

"Eric, listen. You did good, but we really need to deal with this power if we want to keep the peace in Star City." I looked around, his word choice was odd. I only had time to lock eyes with the Emerald Archer before I was shot through the heart with an arrow. I felt the air and warmth drain from me as I fell to my knees. He picked up my head by my hair and he looked apologetic.

"Sorry kid, this is for the best. Never use your powers again. No matter what." His words rang through me as I fell sideways onto the ground. I looked up to see the prisoner I was just interrogating standing next to Oliver. He morphed into a taller green looking man and then the world went white.
