Melody steps up.

As the bell rings, Melody takes a deep breath and walks forward to meet Athena. She’s clearly still nervous, but she doesn’t look intimidated—a distinction that might make all the difference in the coming fight.

“Ah, the Champion’s...protege,” says Athena, in a tone that makes it sound more like “plaything”. “I hope you’re prepared to learn some harsher lessons than she’s given you.”

You can tell immediately that it’s the wrong thing to say. Melody’s fists clench, and she squares herself with Athena to stare her right in the eye. “It’s not the Champion you should be worried about,” she says coldly.

Amazingly, the Goddesses actually look a little taken aback.

Athena recovers quickly, though, and strides across the ring for the fight. Melody matches her pace. For a moment it looks like they’ll lock up, or start trading blows.

But just before she gets within reach, Melody suddenly bursts into motion. Athena, obviously expecting an easy mark who prefers standard strategies, is just a tiny bit slower to react than usual—but it’s enough. Before she can fend off the sudden ****, Melody is inside her guard and slamming her forearm across Athena’s chest in a picture-perfect lariat. The Goddess, stately and poised just a moment ago, goes down in an unceremonious heap.

“Fuck yeah, that’s what I’m talking about!” you shout in encouragement.

The announcer follows you up: “Damn, looks like the new girl’s got some fire in her! Don’t write this one off yet, folks.”

Aphrodite is practically jumping over the ropes to tag her partner out, but Athena’s in the middle of the ring and can’t even seem to pull herself up off the floor after that hit. She’s not going anywhere—which means Melody can do just about anything she wants right now.
