Chapter 3 by TheFastAndTheCurious TheFastAndTheCurious

Where does Nate's story start?

Meeting with his school counselor

Nate gazed upon the “Student Services” sign that hovered before him and his eyes grazed over it again. He took a deep breath before finally entering, telling the receptionist that he had an appointment with his counselor, and sitting down in the pretty vacant row of chairs lined neatly in the corner, his mind somewhere else. He was trying to calm his nerves. He needed to think clearly before he could just go wild like he wanted to do so badly. This meeting was to discuss Nate’s plans for his future after he wrapped up his senior year of high school, but to Nate it was so much more. He waited contently until the receptionist told him that his counselor will see him now and to go on ahead down the hall. “It’s the last door on the left,” she said with a smile. He got up and followed her instructions, her giving him a parting grin as he left. He arrived down the hall and knocked on the open door to get her attention.

*ahem* "Excuse me, Miss. Cole? “

“Oh yes! Nate is it? Please come in, take a seat won’t you?” She warmly greeted him as well. Nate took his seat across from her desk and gave her cramped office a once-over before meeting her gaze.

“So um, I’m here to talk about my future?” He did his best to sound unsure and pretend like this was a normal conversation. He was usually quite shy during school, especially towards the teachers and staff.

“As many people are. So tell me, what are your plans, do you know whether or not you will continue your education or will you be entering the workforce immediately?” She was starting with the routine questions.

“I was planning to uh ‘enter the workforce’. I really don’t really think education will help me with what I wanna do.” He said, getting meeker by the minute.

“Oh, and what field peeks your interest?” She took the bait.

“Well it’s kind of embarrassing actually.” He was getting meek. He was excited and terrified as he wanted to hold off on the mental influence and gauge a response first. Anything he said now would get a legitimate response.

“Now Nate, you know that I have been a counselor for many years at this school and you know we try very hard to be accepting of diversity, in fact we encourage it. Don’t worry about being judged, for here you are free to speak your mind. So tell me, what is it that you want to do?”

Nate, exhaled deeply and decided to just say it: “I want to do...

What does Nate want to do?
