Chapter 14

How does the date go?

Mediocre

"I can't believe you're blackmailing me!" Naomi seethed.

"It's not blackmailing! I'm just collecting on what I'm owed! You've been avoiding me all summer, so if anyone's mad, it should be me!" People began staring, and Trevor quickly lowered his voice.

The seats were narrow, and Naomi was aware of Trevor's leg pressed against hers. "Well, this is the worst date I've ever been on!" She neglected to tell him it was the only date she's ever been on. She'd always been too shy to accept the advances she did receive in high school.

"Okay, so this isn't your typical date," Trevor admitted. "Then again, you're not typically dressed, but it looks good on you." He threw his arm around her bare shoulder, and she felt her blush deepen. "I'm sure we can find something fun to do," he added, as his other hand ran across her smooth leg.

"W-what are you doing?" Naomi protested.

Trevor sighed. "I'm just being a gentleman. I wouldn't want you to get bored on our first date, and what else is there to do on a five hour flight?"

"Umm... can't we just talk?"

"Okay... so, how'd you end up naked on an airplane?"

"Ugghh... I don't want to talk about it," Naomi moaned. Being reminded of her predicament, Naomi slid down further in her chair. She was thankful that Trevor's larger frame hid her from most of the gawking eyes, even though it meant she had no escape if he decided to make his advances again. Surprisingly, she almost wished that he would.

"Why didn't you want to go out with me, even after you promised and I helped you out so much?"

"Honestly... I don't know." They sat in silence for a few awkward moments, and Naomi began to wonder if Trevor was regretting his decision. She felt her self confidence plummet. So much for the new, bold Naomi. She couldn't even keep up a conversation.

"Where are my manners," Trevor said. "Most dates should start with dinner. What would you like?"

The selection was pretty meager. "I'll just have the tuna sandwich."

Trevor waved down a flight attendant. "Two tuna sandwiches and a bottle of champagne, please."

It was as if Trevor had read her mind. Naomi could totally use a drink after the day she was having, and the champagne might help her loosen up a bit.

Does the champagne help?
