Maybe the cops will help me.

I don’t know what the time was but I came round feeling cold. Car lights were shining on me. I lifted my hand to shield my face and saw a police car. I felt a surge of relief. I had been frightened it might be Richard and Jeremy coming back. A big cop was approaching my car. I wound down my window. “Are you alright ma’am?” he asked.

I must have looked quite a state. I tried to straighten my hair. “Yes officer, I’m fine thank you. I fell asleep. I’d just meant to have a rest.” He had seen the blanket wrapped round me and raised hiss eyebrows. “Some friends played a prank on me and stole my clothes.”

“Step out of the car please,” his voice sounded hard.

“Why? What have I…” I protested but he cut me off.

“Just step out of the car please,” his hand dropped to his holster so I hurried to do as he said. I stood there holding the blanket tight around me.

The other cop walked out of the shadows and shone a flashlight right in my face. “Have you been drinking?” he asked. He was tough and mean looking.

“Yeah,” I replied, “but a friend drove me here. He and another guy stole my clothes.

The cop smiled as if he did not believe me. “Blow into this”. It was a Breathalyzer. I did as he said. He checked it. “Way over the limit. We’re running you in lady for being drunk in charge of a vehicle and suspected prostitution.” As I started to protest he said to his partner, “Search her car”. I argued with him but he ignored me and read me my rights.

I was nearly in tears when I heard his partner say, “Look at this.” I turned horrified to see him coming out of my car with a bag of white powder. “It was in the glove compartment.” He dabbed some with his little finger and tasted it. “Grade A coke. Look’s like you’ll be doing time young lady.” I looked at them stunned and they just smiled horribly at me.
