Mark seeks out a Guidance Counselor

Mark and Patty played games till it became night and Mark had to leave, but before he did Patty stopped him. "Mark tomorrow you're going back to college aren't you?" She asked.

Mark was silent, "Yeah... doctor said I could if I wanted to." he said.

His new girlfriend looked at him with concern "Well that's the thing if you 'wanted' to you could go... but you don't 'have' to." she pointed out.

The young man was silent he didn't have to go to college and he'd be lying if he said this little incident hadn't turned him off to his desire to go into physics. "I know completing college doesn't mean instant success but I still wanna do something in life so I might as well try." He didn't know were he wanted to go in terms of life goals... There was a guidance counselor at school and he had a mind to talk to them about the future. "I don't know yet what I wanna do now so ,I'm gonna see the guidance counselor first before I go back." he told her, "I'll see you tomorrow ok?" He said she walked up to him and gave him a quick but passionate kiss. He blushed as she went back to her house and he began to head home.

-The Following Day-

Mark walked down the hall to the guidance counselor office. He wore a hoodie and long loose pants along with a beanie underneath to conceal his identity. Yesterday he had no problem going out so open cause few people actually knew him. College however was a different story as the paper had featured both his incident and his incredible recovery most of the students now knew him and he didn't want to get bombarded with their rumors and desire to see his scars. He kept his head low to better conceal his face, he looked up to see the sign reading guidance counselors and he walked in. He walked up to the desk where a woman was sitting on the computer she looked up at him expectantly. "Hi I'm Mark McGregor I'm here to see the Guidance Counselor?" He said.

She nodded and tapped away at her computer keys, after a minute she looked at the screen, "Ah yes here you are the one caught in that unfortunate incident." She said he sighed and nodded, "Well most of the counselors are busy but there is one open, Ms. Jacobson if that's ok with you?" She asked. He nodded, "Good then please sit down and I'll let her know you're here." she said.

He sat down and waited doing his best to keep his face away from the glass windows looking in on the room. Eventually he heard the door squeak open, "Mark McGregor?" A surprisingly young voice called.

He stood up and turned to the door to see a rather short woman standing there she had brown hair tied in a bun and wore a stereotypical suit and skirt. He stood up and walked to her, she looked up at him, Mark didn't consider himself to be tall, but looking down at this woman he felt like a giant. "Hello." he said pleasantly, he saw her eyes scan him up and down and thought he saw a... glint of hunger in her eyes.

She stood aside, "I'm Beatrice Jacobson," she said, he walked forward and they went down a slight hall to a room at the back, as they walked he couldn't help but notice she didn't really have a butt.

'She'd look good with a bigger butt.' he thought and he felt the headache come and he mentally groaned as her butt was suddenly more bulbous now, 'fuck I can't even casually think about this.' he realized and shut off ll thoughts.

The room was spacious and had various pictures and degrees on the walls. She sat at her desk, she paused a bit as she shifted in her seat then seemed to gather herself again, "So I heard you've changed your career choice? How come?" She asked.

Mark sighed, "I wanted to go into energy but after... that I changed my mind." he stated honestly.

She frowned, "Why?" She asked.

Mark leaned forward thinking, "It's kinda scary being zapped by lightning, I thought I was gonna die I mean my life flashed before my eyes... literally... if it wasn't for that operation I probably would be dead... or at the very least brain dead." he sai.

She nodded, "I see... well have you considered staying on energy but working on making more... reliable equipment?" She asked.

He looked at her, "What do you mean?" He asked now curious.

She shrugged, "It seems to me that the system needs more safety measure or at the very least a secondary system... if you stay withe energy you can research and make a device that works just in case the first device fails don't you agree?" She suggested.

Mark had to admit he hadn't thought of that, "I... never thought of it like," he spoke honestly, "I just didn't want that to happen again." he said.

She nodded, "You're a smart boy, rather handsome too." she said, she cleared her throat after that, "Anyway I think you have a big future ahead of you young man, don't cut it short cause of your incident, I can understand being cautious but if you let fear decide your future you'll find it to be a very empty future." she said. Mark... felt comforted by those words.

He nodded, "I see... I'll think about it." she looked at him for a long time, he looked at her and he couldn't help but ask, "Uh... how old are you exactly?" came the question before he could stop himself.

She smiled, "I'm 30 years old." she said, "A bit young huh?" She read his mind on that, "You can achieve a lot if you put the time into it," she added in, "Though I've yet to find a man in my life." she chuckled at that.

Mark felt his heart throb in his chest, "R-Really?" he asked he felt somewhat nervous... but a part of him was interested in this little news, "Well I think you're quite good looking." he said.

She laughed, "Why thank you but when you're 4'11'' people tend to 'overlook' me as it were." she said.

Mark nodded, "I see... well thank you for the advice, I'll... think about it." he said, and he stood up.

She nodded, "Think about it hard your life is in your hands." she said, he nodded and left. As he did he couldn't help but think on her words, how she never found the right man... maybe if she had a slight boost she'd be more successful... it was the least he could do considering the advice she gave him...
