Chapter 4
by RedMonika
What is her hand?
Lower than yours, you win the hand.
“Flush, all hearts”, Ashley joyfully exclaims as she puts her cards on the table.
Your heart sinks. That is her second flush of the night, what luck. This means not only have you lost the hand, but also the game, all your clothes and the wager.
“Well little man? Let’s see them”, she taunts sensing your end is near.
You are about ready to give up when you realize you only see four of her cards on the table, the fifth card is hid underneath the others.
“Wait,” you inquire, “let me see your full hand.”
Ashley swallows and bats her eyes, “Why? What is wrong?”
You reach down and slide the other cards off the bottom one, a six of diamonds! The little cheat.
“Oh, my mistake, sorry about that.” Ashley tries to cover with a fake innocent voice.
“You cheated! Which means you forfeit the game, I win everything!” in righteous anger you demand.
“No!,” Ashley protests, “all I did was to make a simple mistake, that is different from cheating.”
“You had means, motive, and opportunity. To be blunt you might be a dumb blonde, but even you are not that stupid to confuse a diamond for a heart!" But then it hits you, “wait one damn minute! Your first flush, did you cheat on that one too?!”
“What? Wait? No!” She defends herself.
Offended you lecture the pretty blonde, “look, busting my rocks at the office is one thing, but if I can’t trust your word that damages both our abilities to work together at the firm. Do I give you are hard time for your crazy leftist views, sure, but I would never lie.”
Ashley frowns, and actually looks repentant, “Ok, I admit it, I cheated on that last hand, I am sorry. I confess I really don’t want to lose at strip poker to you.”
“Well that isn’t my concern,” you harshly reject her fears, “my only question is whether you cheated on the first flush?”
“That was legal,” she answers.
You carefully look at her, not sure if she is lying or not. She seems to be telling the truth, but she is a lawyer.
“Here is the deal”, you demand, “I get my pants back and you have to strip off two pieces of clothing.”
“But that would make the game tied!” she cries. Clearly, she really doesn’t want to show herself to you.
“Your point?”
“How about this as a compromise”, Ashley deals, “I lost the last hand, so you can have my top, plus you can have your pants back, okay?”
Do you agree to her compromise?
